Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere but I could not find anything. Does anyone know of a someone that makes a tritium front sight for the interchangeable Classic and DX-type front sights?

I understand you can get fiber optic front sights from S&W, SDM and others, but would like a tritium sight. It seems like this would be a good idea for revolvers that may be used for target or competition and home defense. When you get home from the range you could switch from gold bead or fiber optic to the tritium sight.

I would like one for my PC 625, but don't want one bad enough to have something custom-made.

Just a thought but it seems like a good idea. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks,

Rick

I've looked quite a bit and have had zero luck.

However, Meprolight does make a Tritium insert that presses into the dovetail on the Red Ramp sight for that red insert. Problem is, while the red ramp sights are common on K and L frames S&W doesn't offer a DX version of this sight on their web sight.

If you want to spend the money, one option is to pick up the black serrated ramp sight and have a gunsmith cut a dovetail in it for Meprolights tritium insert. BTW, Meprolight offers a Tritium rear sight blade in the same package, so if you want you could have night sights front and rear. One potential problem with the rear sight is that there aren't any specs on the height of the blade, so I would assume that it's compatable with a 4 inch 686 or model 19, meaning with a longer, or shorter barrel you might have problems getting it zeroed for elevation. Another problem is the black ramp sight is only offered in a 4 piece kit, which costs about 65 bucks.

Once you start totalling up all the costs, I expect that you'll be pushing towards 300 bucks to night sight your DX model. Because of this, and aging eyesight I've gone to using the J Point Reflex on my revolvers, not only do I get a sight that is lighted, I also get a sight that I can actually focus on, and finally I've found that reflex sights are very good for accurate shooting out to about 50 yards. With the mount the J Point runs about 360 bucks, so it's not cheap, however until S&W wises up and starts offereing a DX night sight it's only about 100 bucks more than a custom approach.
