E-Series 1911 TA ?

I've got a question about my 1911 E-Series TA? This is my first smith 1911 and was wondering if the recoil spring is 16lb in my new smith? The reason i am asking is it feels a lot stiffer than 16lbs to me.

It should be 16 lbs. Are you pulling hammer back before working the slide? The hammer spring is strong on the E series due to no pin block (light pin is used)

I love my 1911TA has been flawless.

Hear is my TA that I bought new about a week ago. Plan on taking it out later today for the first time. This is my first smith 1911. I hope it shoots as good as it looks.

I think S&W puts in 18 or 18.5 lb. recoil springs. The standard weight for the 5 inch .45 ACP is 16 lb. Ruger, however, also uses the heavier 18 or 18.5 lb. spring in their 1911.

Called S&W today they told me that they use a 18lb recoil spring in my E-series TA.
