I have been looking at the sw1911sc and have noticed between Gun Broker and my local Gun Stores that there are two different grip safeties coming out of the factory. Is there a certain serial number that S&W changed this. I prefer the smaller hump ; the larger one is just ugly.

Mine, bought on 12/26/13 and arrived at the LGS that day, has the larger safety. Looks fine to me and when in hand and shooting, can't see it or tell the difference. Pretty gun either way.

Gotta say this though: "I like big butts and I cannot lie!"

Not really true, but had to say it.

Really. Perhaps I'll call them too and see if they can send me the more svelte version! Thanks.

I have the big butt

My 1911e series full size has the larger one. I do like the smaller better but it did not stop me from buying my gun.

My bobtail has the small one. I love it.

I think the larger one looks ugly and cheap (no offense intended towards those that have that one).

I have a PC 1911 coming my way. I hope it does not show up with the bigger one you show in your pics.....

Yeah , I cannot find a new two tone bobtail with the smaller version , how much would it cost to have the ugly duckling replaced with a nice silver one anyways ?

There is one on GB but I have read his ratings and people claim he does not picture the same thing he sells , he has not answered 4 of my emails about it either ....... I give up.

It's called parts availability...

Does it matter?

Bob

No, but I may end up taking my E1911 apart to sand and polish the the grip safty. It will look awesome. I do like the smaller bump grip saftey better but the over all look of my E1911 is freak'n great. My E1911 is my best auto loader to date.

No, it doesn't really matter at all and I never even noticed the big bump grip safety until this thread came along. The gun functions great, looks great and feels great. But now I
have this voice in the back of my head telling me that I will not be complete until that fat-*** grip safety is replaced with the thinner one. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!

Think how I feel now knowing my PC 1911 may show up with a "pudgy" grip safety ;-(

Just got one off GB , I don't know how y'all can sleep at night with those big fat ugly grip safety's :)

Y'all are killing me ....

Sorry to necro this thread but I'm a new SW1911SC owner and I too have the fatty grip safety. Has anybody been able to get the slimmer version from S&W?

Does anyone know the correct radius for the grip safety? Also is there a difference in radius between the slim attractive one & the fatter looking rounded one ?

"slim attractive one & the fatter looking rounded one ?"

Come on, just say it. The fatter looking UGLY one...

I've got the popcorn ready.
