Somebody, Somebody on this site must know something about this pistol...S&W web site shows sold out.....we had one in store for 2 hours..Gone baby Gone......Doesn't anybody have one and if you do what are your impressions.......I have tried this before and didn't get much feed-back....They must darned be almost non-existent. If so popular somebody must have bought one. How can a certain pistol be so in demand and Smith doesn't have any.....well maybe that is a self answering question....I'm going nuts, I'm to old to go nuts...Now it has become a obsession...I never learn..HELP

There are 1 or 2 for sale in the Classified section, I believe. Both from same seller.

My money is on the idea that they're not producing more until they fix the frame scratching issues behind the safety, and elsewhere. The metal and paint job is just far too easily scratched. Perhaps S&W has called a "time-out" until they fix the issues with new guns shipped? Just a guess.

I'd like a confirmation from someone who has owned a bobtail e-series for a few months, but based on the Youtube videos I've seen (Jeff's Gunblast review is one), the finish on the frame will get marred all to heck in a short few months if it's carried.

I wish they offered the same colors and bobtail look with a more durable finish, or even all-steel. I want one of these when the bugs are ironed-out.

Lifetime warranty to original owner- why don't you just get one and enjoy it and shoot it as much as you want, and if you have any problems with the scratching or the finish, send it back at some point in the future?

It's not like this is a FTF or some safety issue- just a matter of cosmetics.

Now imagine if we applied that kind of thinking to a new car?

This is a gun costing at least $1,100. I don't think it's too much to ask for a more durable finish on such a work of art.

I think we generally do apply that kind of thinking to a new car, in fact most people know to be careful about buying a car in the first year of a new model.

All I'm saying is, if you really want all the other features of this gun, and don't want to wait until they get all the bugs out of this new model, you can always be an early adopter and have it fixed or replaced at no charge when they get this issue ironed out.

Or you can wait.

Plus, while you might call it a "work of art", it's really a fine tool. Guns that stay in the safe never show any scratching and wear. Guns that get used definitely will show some honest wear. This problem that some, but not all, have had- sounds like it should be addressed.

Now you guys got me thinking. I was all set to plop down a deposit on this baby but with the finish issue a problem, I think I'll wait. Of course, with the demand backing up I probably won't see one for a good six months at which time the problem might be resolved. Or will it?

the following is my opinion.

these are production guns.

the scratching is likely from the inside of the thumb safety and slide lock lever being a little rough on the inside and the harder metal wins.

since SW will not dress the inside of those parts, and with use...scratching will occur.

if you get one and it has stainless small parts, it might be worthy to dress any sharp edges with a stone to reduce the scratching effect.

with any metal to metal rubbing, the harder/sharper metal wins.

get one and shoot it.

I gotcha. Mine will be for carry, hence my concerns.

I'm SOL on buying one until next year, anyway. My main concern was seeing how there were already large scratches on the slide release of Jeff's Gun on his Gunblast Youtube video. So would that part be more apt to scratch than the rest of the frame of the pistol?

I don't want my beautiful new 2-Tone Bobtail E-Series looking like someone took a Brillo pad to it after 6 months of carry.

Here's a link to what I'm talking about in the Gunblast review at 2 mins 20 seconds:

Also, another link to a different video where the guy complains about the finish and a nick he's already got, at 10:48 seconds:

Well, the bobtail E-series came up in stock at Bud's gunshop, and the price was right ($1,098), so I went ahead and bit the bullet on one. It is sitting at my FFL now. I'll have to pick it up when I am back in-country. I just couldn't pass at that price!

I've been doing a lot of reading about these guns, and decided that it was just too beautiful not to have, and that S&W would take care of me if I had problems. Pretty much everyone agrees that it's just about a perfect carry 1911, with several comments saying that the only thing they're planning on changing is the ambi-safety. I'll see how she carries, and consider that, as well.

I got one at my local gun shop yesterday. Had a deposit down on it for two months!

Hi folks , Just received a S&W 1911SC series E Bobtail yesterday.

For years I've wanted a light weight, short barreled 1911 to carry, but have decided against the 3" models for now. I've always preferred steel, but decided this S&W had all the bells and whistles, even was bobtailed and lacked a FP block, so when the opportunity arose, I bought one.

I will post some range data later, but right now am recuperating from Carpal Tunnel surgery.

What struck me immediately upon receipt was the gun is truly beautiful, but almost looks "fragile". Not sure about the fish scales, I would have preferred std serrations, and not on the front of the slide.

All in all , if this pistol will point, shoot, and be as reliable as my 80's Colt Combat Commander, I'll have a great carry piece.

Just wanted to get in on the discussion .

Merry Christmas to all!

Jim
