Billed as the World's Greatest Aviation Celebration, EAA AirVenture is coming up, July 21-27. Every imaginal aircraft will be there for the aviation buff. It is quite a spectacle.

I always keep my eye in the sky before and after the EAA show, one can see some nice aircraft flying over.
The Ford Tri-motor was in the area and I took a little ride, I got to sit in the co-pilot seat and had the headset on so it wasn't to noisy and got to listen to the tower and pilot. what an aircraft best view of any airplane I have ever been in. The tin Goose just seems to float in the air, great ride.

I'm an Oshkosh native, we look forward to the big show every year. Planes flying over, you never know what you're going to see, bi-planes, WWII fighters, current military jets, the blimp, Sky writing, it's quite a show.
I have been to many Dayton Air Shows. All were announced by my long
time friend Rob Reider.
His was a distinctively, unmistakable cheerful voice. (He recorded Rubber Ducky)
His vast knowledge of aircraft was remarkable.
He also did Oshkosh.
He retired last year after 30 years behind the mic.

The drone light show will be happening again this year.
My Dad was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB several times so I've been to that air show many times. It is a big one.
Some time around 1990 I was on the ramp at the Ft. Smith, AR airport and a highly polished P-38 landed while on his way home from Oshkosh. What an amazing machine. I could have gotten a ride but I was waiting for my passengers.

I have flown into the show many times, and it is quite the experience. Best not have your head in that dark smelly place because things can change quickly with that many arrivals, and you certainly don't want to botch the landing with a 100,000 people watching.

Sure would love to fly in and hang out for a few days but too much on my plate this year.
Used to love the airshows growing up and during my service years. The KC-135 crash at Fairchild AFB that hit about 100 yards from me took the thrill out of airshows. The tanker was practicing a questionable performance for an upcoming airshow. They have one locally every November, but I'm content to just hear them pass overhead.
When my son was a teenager he got to go to Oshkosh twice. The Combat Air Museum here in Topeka would take their C-47 "Kilroy" to the show every year. Several people would go and share the fuel cost. He would take his pup tent and just set it up on the grounds. On one trip the pilot let him take the controls for a bit, while he pretended to bomb a bridge.
My son's first flight was in a piper cub with the doors removed. He went on to be a REO on a EA-6B Prowler in the Navy. He did two tours on the Nimitz during the first Iraqi war.

Never been to that one. I have seen the Sun & Fun Fly-In at Lakeland Florida several times.
Once as the guest of a gal-pal who was an air traffic controller. Got to see some interesting “behind the scenes” action.
I have my basic license. But have been inactive for quite some time. Sadly. I miss it.

For those of us that love flying, and with the years creeping up, we face the reality... time is a thief . The memories of thousands of hours above and doing what we love the most is sufficient.
