Ear Protection

Good coaching!

Another alternative I don't think anyone has mentioned are the "low-profile" hearing muffs, which are cut out on the lower section to clear the stock of a longarm. These also come in an electronic version that automatically suppresses noises above 85 dB.

Given her history, I think double hearing protection would be wise for her all the time, as long as she can still hear range commands and the like.

I will see if I can find those...she was wearing my electronic muffs over her plugs when I was shooting. Should have seen me with my huge mits trying to help her put the plugs in...hilarious. She really like shooting with the 10 rd mags as the .22 was not propped a foot up in the air.

Great pics! Sounds like she really loves to shoot. Wouldn't collapsing the stock make it easier for her to get proper eye relief on the scope and not have to stretch her left arm out so much?

Glad her hearing has improved.

I am EXTREMELY careful about my hearing now. I had tinnitus free, full frequency hearing until one .357 shot without hearing protection. Goodbye 9 kHz+ frequency, hello tinnitus.

I now double up at the range - soft crushable plugs and muffs.

Let us know how those work. I might interested.

Good to see Dad's taking care of that hearing. We have learned so much over the last 30 years....

I do the same thing. When I was 12 a firecracker exploded on my hand while I was throwing it by my right ear. Doubling up is the only way to fly even for those who have no problems now, imo.

Try convincing her of that! :D She usually has the stock collapsed all the way, but I was the last one to shoot it and plain forgot to collapse it before she got it. I didn't even notice it till I saw the pics and was actually waiting for someone to mention it LOL. It is only a red dot so the relief isn't much of a factor...but her targets from last week were better than yesterday though....

And this is why suppressors should be tax and background check free, and cheap. Its a great safety device and minimizes the sound in more urban areas to keep the neighbors happier.

Naw; it's lots easier for them to have some schlub write no-firearm-discharge ordinances or make it part of a homeowner's association by-laws. When my neighborhood was young and less "gentrified", the old former-Marine across the street kept idiots from dumping trash at the bottom of the hill with his deer rifle and whacking-big scope! Then the "suppies" (suburban yuppies) moved in, formed a homeowners association and passed a no-firearms covenant so he had to stop. The dumpers took advantage and there were mornings you could hardly get through on the road for all the **** they had tossed! The association called the cops but the bottom of the hill is in another county and city! Over time the problem has sort of petered out though there is still the odd box of junk or old TV down there from time to time. I always loved to hear the crack of the old guy's Marlin though, knew he was keeping an eye on things!

A Standing Ovation for taking your granddaughter to the range and making sure she's safe, protected and well educated!

Bravo, Bravo, Bravissimo!

Might try Sam's Club, some of them have hearing aids and I know the do make ear molds for under $50 each. That is a very good price. Good luck, and good Job.
