I was browsing one of my pawn shops and they had a model 36 that was chambered for 38 s&w not 38 special. When did they make that model in a 38 s&w? The gun had a beautiful patina no rust and someone had, what I would imagine was several decades ago, had ground down the spur. It is calling to me. Any comments?

Model 36.....not

I think what you are looking at is either a model 33, or a model 32. The 38 s&w cartridge is actually larger in diameter than the 38 special. The guns look alike, but are marked on the barrel as to ammo type.

yes it is stamped "38 s&w ct." What if any value do these old smiths have. It has no rust and the gun is in good condition. From what I can find it is an I frame. It has the half moon front sight.

With the "antiqued" finish and the altered hammer, a $150 gun. With the short barrel and RB, it is a .38/32 Terrier; the longer barrel and SB, a .38 Regulation Police.

Whatever you do, don't resist. Its not good for your health! And be sure to show us some pics when the time comes! :)

Thanks to all. It seems to be a 38 s&w Terrier. Like I said the finish is well worn nor rusted and it feels tight. If it comes home with me I will post. The gun has a lot of character as it must have been carried in someone's pocket for many years. Thanks for the help.
