Early M&P

Saw 5 screw M&P snubbie at a Pawnshop today. Well used but has a GREAT trigger in DA. Tight lockup and barrel/ cylinder look good. Finish on side plate is bad; looks like it was stored improperly and is rusty and pitted, hammer on that side also.
Looking for $400, I'm thinking maybe $300 at best.

Opinions?

It's only value is as a shooter and $300 would be a little over the top in my opinion, unless it's a round butt, and that's assuming the barrel is original and has not been cut and the serial number is high enough to be sure the cylinder was heat treated. About $250 is more like it. Ed.

Well, I don't necessarily disagree with Ed, but I think I'd withhold judgment until I know how bad that finish actually looks. What is the serial number on this (ie., how old is old?)

It wouldn't happen to be a pre-war M&P would it? What hammer and grips are on it? Can you post a photo? If it is a pre-war gun that is a very good price.

Not enough information was provided to have a price opinion. However, if it happens to be a chopped British .38/200 Victory, $300 would be too much. If it was anything else, $300 could be a good to a very good buy. Or maybe not.
