Early model 10 nickel?

Any such thing from the factory?....friend just picked one up with pearl grips.....very clean...I was curious about the nickel...
I havent gotten the serial number yet....would it not have an N suffix if it was originally nickel?
Generally not crazy about the bling but its unusual and in vey nice condition.....and it's been a while...;-)

No way to tell based on your picture and no SN. You can be reasonably sure it was not factory nickeled if the hammer and trigger are nickeled, and they seem to be. It is not a Model 10, but an M&P from the 1927-47 period.

Yes, a nickel finish was available from the factory. The N would not be a suffix to the serial, though. Look on the frame under the grip panel, left side. I can't tell from the photo whether the hammer and trigger are nickeled; if they are, that would not be factory-original.

Serial number is 823543...hard to see last two digits...could be 53...and there is an N on the grip frame....tnx

there may be an "S" preceding your serial numbers.....

A model 10-5 I have is also marked with a large N on the flat under the barrel covered by the ejector rod When you open the cylinder, it is visible.

If there is no prefix, it's a pre-Victory from 1941 and would definitely be refinished; no nickeled guns shipped at that time to my knowledge. With an S-prefix, should be 1946, and nickel is a possibility.

Here's a similar M&P with 6" bbl

Here's my slightly younger factory nickel M&P (pre-Model 10) with a 6" bbl. that I picked up from a local gun store. The s/n is C 117638 (ca. 1949-1950), and it has N stamps in all the appropriate places (see above posts). The MOP stocks are aftermarket, but in great condition, as is the revolver (sorry for the lousy photos!). It's a great shooter, and I just couldn't pass it up for $350. Nickel and MOP- makes for a perfect "pimp gun"!
