Early Model 39

A friend wound up with an early Model 39 and wonders when it was made and what it may be worth.

S/N 38,XXX (pre A-prefix). Model marked. Looks 98+% from photos; no visible blue wear. Has original box, warranty/liability card and target. Has original grips plus a nice set of real ivory grips. 5 magazines.

I would appreciate any information on this one. I looked at Jinks' book and SCS&W III and saw what it had to say.

Anyone recall who some of our more enthusiastic old M-39 fans are here?

Not sure about the -actual- value, because I paid around $500.00 for each of my four model 39s. That's probably too much, but I do enjoy the pistols, and carry one of them daily.

Many modern leather holsters fit the gun well.

It's hard to say on value without looking at the auto. The ivory grips from what I have observed would be high dollar and perhaps worth almost as much as the 39.

Pictures would really help with the value on these. The original no dash mod 39's are harder to find but not so rare that they command a lot more then a 39-2. An ANIB or LNIB 39 with the 38XXX SN range could probably get you around $500 to $650 depending on the collector. I have seen this price range reinforced by gun broker searches. There are several LNIB Mod 39's that have been on GB for several months at $850. The ones that sell usually go for around $450 to $550 (of course then you have to figure in shipping and FFL fees and the buyer is usually paying around $525 to $650). Local prices will vary by availability in your area. We don't see many of these in Northern AZ, so if I found a collector here I could sell mine for more then in the Eastern US where these were more common and introduced as LE agency guns.

Also, if someone is just going to shoot it they won't offer as much since a range gun doesn't need to be LNIB. These are great little guns and I enjoy my small, but growing collection.
