Early Model 66 Value

I have a no-dash Model 66 with a pinned barrel and recessed chambers. I believe it was made in 1976 (SN: 9K84XXX). It's in great shape and has been handled and only occasionally shot with great care. I consider it one of my legacy guns to be passed on, but I've been wondering if I should schedule it specifically on my insurance policy. Could anybody help me with a ballpark value estimate?

It depends on whether your insurance requires any item above a certain value to be individually listed. If you have the original box and contents $750 would be a good replacement value. Hope this is helpful.

I would say that is a low number.... especially if a 2.5" barrel with original box and papers..... Add another $100....

That's a plus.... My 66 no dash 4" has a stainless sight and I wouldn't take $1000 for it.... I do like the 66's....

I recently gave $1000 for a 66 no dash new in box, no papers or kit... Its a 2.5" though. I felt it was a fair price. He wanted $1200 but I managed to talk him off the ledge.

I have a -1 new in the box with all papers etc. It would take more than $1500 for me to part with it. It's getting harder and harder to find a like new no dash or -1 model 66.....

I have a NIB 4” 66 ND with the black sights. I do not know what the market is, but 9 bills would get me to thinking and 10 bills would have me thinking really hard.
I have seen the same model/configuration on GB sell north of $1K.
I was just on one of the online sites and a reputable dealer has a NIB 66-2 listed for $1,200.00. I realize some folks think they are high on prices, but the reputation for quality and service is there and they ain’t in the business of not selling guns. I prefer to think they are on the leading edge of market values.

Paying $1200-$1500 for a boxed 66 is absolutely ridiculous; UNLESS it's a 3" variation. Y'all stop trying to inflate the market on yalls run of the mill model 66's. It's unbecoming.

Looking on gunbroker and seeing what similar models sold for will give you a pretty good idea of what they currently sell for. Some are asking mile high prices, but just look for sold prices.

On Feb 3 a no dash 2.5" new in the box sold for $1450 on GB... this is not uncommon. A week before one sold for $1704. Local prices are much less....

In my experience, Gun broker is a decent place to sell a gun, But it's certainly NOT where you are going to find the best deals while buying, not to say there are no deals, they are just fewer and further between. For the best deals you have to get out into your community. I bought a 2.5" 66-1 (no box) for $500 last year. I was a little sad about it because my buddy had landed an identical 2.5" 66-1 (no box) for $400, only his had a better trigger.

Patience is a virtue. Delayed gratification is the way of the adult.

There are "deals" to be found on GunBroker if you pay attention.

Look for auctions with just a pic. or two, bad pictures, skimpy descriptions. Ask seller questions, get a phone number to talk to them.

New sellers with no or low amount of feedback. That scares off some bidders. Again talk to them, feel them out.

I picked up a 19- with a 2 1/2" barrel. The picture showed a set of aftermarket grips that looked like square butt grips. I'm sure many thought it was a square butt with a replacement 2 1/2" barrel. I emailed seller and asked if it was a round butt (he did not specify in descriptions) and it was. So ask question if not sure about something.
