I have a early pre model M&P S&W pistol. 2 inch barrel. And I found a early pre model 10 box for it. It is marked SMITH & WESSON MILITARY POLICE REVOLVER SQUARE BUTT BLUE FINISH 2 INCH BARREL.
It has a small stain on it not bad. the price he wants for it is $62.00. Is it worth this price of $62.00? There is no original papers with it or any thing more.
Regards

For a 2", that price might even be low! Yes, nice boxes fetch that much. Boxes changed. If your gun is 47 to 57 (most likely), then a gold box is what you want, the original S/N of the gun is in grease pencil on the bottom of the box. Pre-war guns (and very immediate post-war guns) have different boxes. Is your gun square butt as the box states? They made them both ways.

Make sure it's the right style box for your gun. List your serial number and members will help you try to narrow it down. Here's the box I would expect to see with guns before 1955.

Hi Kamerer,
I just checked it again. The box is blue in color. And on the side it has S&W in large letters. you said I need a gold box? My S&W was made in 1948.
Please let me know then, If it is not the correct box I will pass it on to you if you want it,
regards
Bob

If your revolver is a 1948 vintage, it is definitely a gold box.

Hi guys.
Rats.... I thanks all you guys for your help. The box is blue in color and therefor I can not use it. I need the gold box.
So I will pass it on to you guys.
It is on GUNBROKERS.COM
ITEM NUMBER 102563044.
THE PRICE IS $65.00 NOT THE $62.00.
Good luck and thanks again.

Bob
