I have several CC weapons. They tend to be light and "hammerless." My wife has decided that she needs her own handgun because the trigger pull in my guns is too "heavy." She can shoot them (with effort) but the work involved interferes with hitting things.
Suggestions?
I suppose she could use an exposed hammer revolver in single action but hammers can snag when presented.
A lot of people carry semi-autos but DAO's have the same problem and "cocked and locked" is not for novice shooters IMHO.
Anybody have a comment on an easy-to-pull double-action revolver (it doesn't have to be a Smith)?
Thanks

I think "hammerless" is a highly over rated feature in a carry piece.
its nothing to use ones thumb to cover the spur during the draw and even cock said hammer in the process. they've done as much for many decades before we got spoiled and picky.

the flies in the ointment are ... 1) that she'll have a revolver in SA mode with a very light trigger on a target she might not have fully determined she wants to shoot yet ... with a nervous trigger finger.
2) a somewhat complicated draw technique that must be mastered.
3) by the time you have the control down .. she'll be essentially qualified for condition 1 carry.

I'm sure you'll get suggestions to do a trigger job on a J, but this is not something I would do. It only changes the standard pull a little and unless you do it exactly right you run the risk of light strikes. I've had trigger jobs done on range guns but NEVER on my self defense arms, but this is just me.

The best trigger I've experienced on a gun right out of the box is the Colt Cobra & Colt Detective Special, but these can be hard to find.

One of the best trigger pulls I have experienced on a stock DAO revolver is the Ruger LCR. It has (or at least mine did) a very smooth and light trigger for a revolver. Of course, it didn't compare to a semi-auto.

I have owned both the .38 model, and the .357 model. If you get the LCR, get the .357 model, even if you don't plan for your wife to shoot .357s in it. It is 3 oz heavier, which helps with recoil, and the frame is steel, which makes it more durable that the aluminum frame .38 model.

I just bought a Model 19 - 3 at a local shop, and it has the sweetest trigger I have ever felt in DA. In SA, it is downright scary light....just the lightest touch of my finger sends the hammer home! If you do go with a DA/SA revolver, and especially one like the M19 I now have, you will need to coach your wife never to cock the revolver...to fire it DA mode only. If she does cock it (and I am following this advice myself) there is just too much chance of an ND. In a tense and adrenaline filled encounter, it will be all to easy to put her finger on that too-light trigger, and fire unintentionally.
