EASY On/Off J-Frame holster HIGH RIDE

With the cylinder above the belt line there will be only the barrel area with which to secure the bulk and weight of the revolver. This is likely to result in the holstered revolver tipping out from the body, making concealment far more difficult. Also, such a holster will require a thumb-break, or other retention device, to keep the handgun in the holster.

For concealed carry in a outside the waistband holster we generally use the trigger guard area to pull the holstered handgun into the body. This reduces overall profile, making concealment easier, and also provides for better retention of the weapon in the holster by applying constant tension on the handgun.

I make a modified pancake style holster with snap-loop belt attachment that is easily put on and taken off without unfastening the belt, threading the belt loops, etc. For a 2-inch barreled revolver there is only about 1.5 to 2" of the holster below the belt. Very comfortable with excellent retention and access. Available with or without thumb-break.

I really like blackhawk's detachable slide holster. It's a high ride and very easy to take on and off.

Well, this holster isn't the easy-on, easy-off with snaps that you want, but it is a high ride that I have been considering for my 442.

I have a Bucheimer "semi-shoulder" holster for a 2" J-frame. It carries the revolver completely above the belt. It's an older design where the holster attaches to a plate that attaches to the belt. The holster can be removed without removing the plate. I first saw this type of holster over 30 years ago; a Lieutenant at the department where I was a police officer carried his revolver in this type of holster. I bought mine from Rob Hannes on this forum.
