Yes, there was no distinction between the ammo or the clips. Usually seen in bandoleers, in 5 round stripper clips, two clips per pouch.

Stripper clips from WW1, between the wars, WW2 and later ones, even the foreign ones all work in both the Springfield and the Model 1917.

They even work with French clips. We gave France a bunch of 1917s, and they made ammo for them. They put the ammo up in aluminum stripper clips. You can tell them from clips for the French 7.5mm cartridge because they are stamped on the back 7.62 instead of 7.5.

I'm pretty sure the Springfield stripper clips work on my Remington 81 in .300 Savage, too. It has the notch for it and if I recall the clip was a little tight but worked. I think I'll go check this out again.

Ill give ya mine LOL
ow .... this rifle is not a great choice from a prone position.

Not many full house rifles are unless you use a wearable recoil pad. I have bony shoulders, so I find a pad a must. Try an Enfield No.5 or Mosin carbine for the full OW! effect.

Three weeks ago I had some surgery on my left shoulder and last Thursday shot my Shiloh Sharps 45-70 off hand a few times along with my freinds British Enfield .303 which he warned had heavy felt recoil...shooting at a table. Off hand it was just fine. And I was wearing a tanktop and there was no recoil pad. Metal against skin. And I'm not power mad when it come's to rifles. Position means a lot.
