A lot of fuel distributors sell K-1 kerosine. Just passing it on. Bring the right fuel container.

If you can get #1 diesel or Jet-A, it's the same stuff and sometimes it's a lot cheaper than K-1

I got some kerosene I use in the Kerosun space heater. Red stuff. I assumed this is K-1 for Ed's Red? Is this correct.

The K1 Kerosene around here (southern Illinois) is crystal clear - looks like water. Now, here, they put a red dye into #2 diesel as this denotes this fuel is not to be used for highway use as it is sold with no highway tax on it. So, you wouldn't want to be caught with red diesel in the tank of your truck or car if it had a diesel motor.
To be clear, #2 diesel and K1 Kerosene is NOT the same thing.

Hope this helps

I also have a Kerosun heater and the K-1 in Michigan that I buy is also dyed red. Probably best to rely on the label on the pump rather than the color - or lack there of.

After thinking about it for years, I just mixed up my first batch of Ed's Red yesterday. I got a gallon of K-1 off the shelf at Lowes for (I think) $8.00. Might have been cheaper elsewhere but then I would have had to buy a can. I tried it last night and it seemed to do a fine job.

I think that the K-1 kerosene the origional poster wants is the deoderized version. Jet fuel is a version of kerosene but still has an odor. Frank

Avoid the jet fuel, too low a flash point. K=1 in my area (SE NC) is dyed red. #1 diesel may have some additives that may or may not be wanted in Ed's Red. Lots of info on this subject at various places on web.

Pray and Shoot Daily.

I can't imagine red or clear in the mix would change the effectiveness of the ED's Red. Anyone ?

As far as red vs clear, the red is used to verify that it has not been taxed to use on public roads. It can be used as fuel oil and such. The clear may be used on roads. It is just coloration to make sure the government gets every penny of taxes that they can.

I have a 1933 Colt (I know, I know) Det spl with factory medallion pearls and orig box. Inside box is some paperwork I had not seen in years. Was looking for something in said paperwork, and found the ORIGINAL formula for Ed's Red, before it was Red. It was printed in a pamphlet on caring for your Colt Revolver.

Will try to get a pic posted.
