any educated guesses on the value of a model 27-2 with a 3 1/2” barrel that has been refinished in electroless nickel. Front ramp sight was left blued as well as rear sight. Original wood magna style grips replaced with a new set of pachmayers. The action is tight, and the overall surface finish shows no pitting and/or other metal defects under the new finish, there is a slight flame cut line on the top strap…No box, no papers.

Thanks in advance…

Having been searching for and watching online sales recently until I found my 3.5" gun, I know there was a 27-2 3.5" nickel gun that had been bead blasted sell on gunbroker for 1200. It had nice smooth targets on it and a presentation case with it.

I would say a lot depends on the quality of the refinish it has. Maybe a slight knock on that gun comparatively for the pachmeyers and no presentation case. That said, if it's a good looking gun with a high quality finish, It wouldn't surprise me if you got 1000 for on gunbroker relatively fast. 3.5" guns definitely hot right now and commanding a premium.I don't think it would be hard to find a buyer for that gun even in modified condition, due to it being kinda hard a reasonably priced 3.5" 27 in any condition. Unmodified high condition 3.5" 27's seem to go for atleast $1500 on gunbroker, with really nice pre 27 examples bringing the most. Have seen 27-2s go for a lot of money as well, up to 2k for collector grade box or cased examples.

Why would anyone do that to a 27-2 3.5" ? I would have to pass at any price. Hold out for an original.
I am with AC Man on this one. Refinishing is a turn off for me. With that said, you could get anywhere from 650 - 1k just depends on where you market it. I would bet much of S&W community here would not be the top of marketplace. I could be wrong.

Why would anyone do that, you ask?

Simple: Many folks buy guns to carry and shoot, not collect.

I would love to see pics, but my guess is it was a LEO carry piece.

I once had a 27 3.5” in polished nickel, blued sights, in the factory wood preso case. Great carry piece even concealed if you know how and can balance the weight.
Shot it , loved it , but did not really like the high polished nickle so sold it to build a 1911 IPSC pistol.

No regrets then , mild regrets now, but shoot I am neither a collector or a museum so I only keep “forver guns” I am shooting or plan on continuing to shoot. same with knives. I wont own them If I am not going to sharpen and use em. Shoot, even my damascus ca 1600 pattern Dirk (new made) is a “using knife”.

There is a different mindset betwixt collectors and shooters. If all I want to do is “look” this forum is full of beautiful photos!
