Hello again, same as last request, I am trying to understand Smith & Wessons self loaders. Being a revolver man the self loaders are a mystery to me. This time I am curious about frame sizes. I just handled a single stack model 539 and was amazed at how large the grip frame felt. It actually feels bigger in my hand than a doulble stack 4006. I read somewhere that the 40 calibers used the same frame as the 9mm's. Is this correct, and if so I am assuming that this means they are the same width and length. Lastly, what is the smallest, lightest, all metal 9mm that Smith builds? From my research it appears to be the model 3913. If so, again from my limited research, this model uses the same clip as the old model 39. If this is true then how can it be very concealable? Again forgive me for questions that are probably quite obvious to you guys, however living in such a remote area gives little chance to actually touch and feel the different models.

The 40 S&Ws' do use the same frame size as the 9mm, my guess would be the x39 has a arched backstrap where most of the 40s' came with a straight one. The double stacks are wider and most 9s' came arched backstrap with straight on the 40s', but they can be swapped. The compact 3913/14/53/4040PD models are single stack with 1/2" off the barrel and grip, the 39 will work but would stick out the bottom. There is also the early 39xxTSW series pre-rail from'98-2000 that had a shorter 7rd grip and uses a shorter mag simular to the CS9.
