Hello everyone! So I'm at the range shooting my SD40. 2 stalls down next to me a group of 3 guys are yelling at me that there is something wrong with my gun. They said my shells are flying like 8-10 feet out when they eject. I figured that's normal since the gun is new. I've only put 100 rounds through it, but had no problems. Have any of you had problems with that?

Mine slings them just as far, I do my best to ensure no one is on my right side when I shoot it.

sounds normal to me...I have an SD40 VE and I keep all my brass...so when I'm allowing a friend to shoot it I actually stand to the right of them and catch the spent casings. It's probably actually good hand-eye coordination practice because the shells fly anywhere in a 90 degree angle from the ejector...the ejector being the source of the angle with the pistol itself and perpendicular of the pistol being the flat "plains" of the angle...if that made sense...anyway...they can fly anywhere from ~5-15 feet from the pistol in that area...and my dad's SW40 VE is the same...we don't shoot at a range...so we have a little more freedom to stand how and where we want...apart from "down range" when a weapon is hot that it! safety first!

so tell those guys at the range to grow a pair...and stop crying about flying casings...lol

Tell the "Three Amigos" to grow up. There is nothing wrong.

Tell them it's not a Glock...it ejects shells. :p

Yep

I saw a guy shooting and his partner was standing almost that far to the right catching the hulls in the air. Seems that where, which direction and how far the cases are thrown has always been an important consideration. Was it the original 1894 that ejected shells straight up where they fell in front of the shooters face and bounced off his rifle? It's a bit disconcerting for good follow up shots when you get a hot case in the eye.

Are you tall? I'm 6'8" and shooters two or three lanes over will complain about getting hit by brass out of my PX4. Shells fly right over the top of the lane dividers.

Too hot for your recoil spring

A stronger recoil spring or a heavier slide (not an option) or softer loaded cartridges.

Find out what cartridges will go far enough but not too far.

If you are shooting +p go to regular. If you are shooting regular loads switch to target loads.

Or take a spot at the extreme right side.

I would much rather have a gun that ejected shells vigorously and consistently, than one that dribbled them out of the ejection port, and/or put them into your face. (I was being facetious with my earlier "it's not a Glock" comment...but they do seem to be having a lot of brass-to-face problems with some of the newer models.)

While it may be annoying to others at the range...it isn't a problem with the functioning of the gun, as far as I know (but then I don't know most, much less all.) As has been mentioned, stand to the right at the range and don't worry about it.

Or put a plastic bag over it to catch your brass, like in the movie "Mr. Brooks." :p

Haha my thoughts exactly. People will cry about anything these days. You wanna shoot at a public range, you might catch a little brass. Especially uncool to whine about someones PROPERLY functioning gun.

brass rain

Suffering Succotash. Do people pay money to go to indoor ranges and get showered by neighbors +P or +P+ shells?

Yeah. ;(

My preferred range does not have a barrier overhead, so my neighbor's brass figuratively gets under my skin with the occasional on-my-skin hit.

The other range I can go to has an overhead barrier. I once had my own casing bounce back down and fall between my safety glasses and eyelid. That HURT. It burned my eyelid and just below the "rim" of my eye socket. Ever since, I wear a ball cap, too.

The last time I shot outside on someone's land, I laid out a blanket to catch the casings. It was amazing how far they would travel when I was trying to give them a landing pad.
