I think you would be better off with a good cigar.. :D.. relaxing.. with a cup of coffee or an adult 80 proof beverage:D sipped slowly..

Some how Vaporized Nicotine just doesn't seem to cut it..

Buy a pipe. I wouldn't expect to see the electronic cigarettes on the market for long owing to safety concerns. It just screams to be one of those things where ten years on everyone finds out how horrible it was.

Or just keep smoking cigarettes, though hand rolled ones are better for you, lacking the fire safe chemicals in the paper. Cigarettes do not cause cancer per se, rather they can simply increase the odds of developing cancer for those more genetically predisposed to such.

Smoking is actually quite cheap, just learn to roll your own using the big bags of pipe tobacco from Walgreens. Gets rid of those annoying filters too.

this is an interesting idea. when I visited europe the first time in the early 80's I was impressed because so many rolled their own, even very young teenagers. I have been in casinos in germany where men would roll with one hand while the other was occupied with cards or chips. and they didn't look like joints either. perfectly rolled just like out of the pack. you can order the best tobacco online and if you shop around I'm sure you could find pretty decent paper. with the cost of cigarettes this seems like the solution. I am not a smoker and I am also not paranoid about second hand smoke. I think most of it is just govt trying to control us. I sure don't believe in the "sin" tax either. if a person wants to smoke that's their business and I think they should do it the most economical and natural way as possible. so why so many smokers pay those crazy rates for cigarettes is beyond me.

I might give up nicotine when they introduce electronic snuff and chewing tobacco. I am going to wait until they work all the bugs out though. I'd hate to get to heaven and have to tell my granny that I got a hold of some snuff that electrocuted me.

Tom, I quit about 18 months ago, cold turkey. After a few days I knew I was gonna backslide so I started smoking cigars as a stop gap. After about three months I gave up the cigars and haven't smoked since. It helped that my wife kicked me outside everytime I lit up a cigar. It still wasn't easy but I was able to stop.

Quit smoking 4 years ago this month........cold turkey.......I STILL WANT ONE !!!! I know I can NEVER smoke another cigarette.....If I was to bum one here at work I would be buying a pack with in the hour.....I am weak !!! I think in order to quit you have to make up your mind that you can NEVER smoke another cigarette......and stick to it !!! That is the only way you will be able to quit. I have friends that say I quit smoking !!!! I have only smoked 3 cigarettes this week OR I have only smoked 2 cigars this week .......WELL....I tell them you haven't quit.......My step daughter bought some electric cigarettes after a couple weeks of electric smoking and actual cigarette smoking she threw the electric cigs away and is still smoking.....

In denial much?

Replace one bad habbit with one that isent so bad, then replace that one, and so on. The hands, and mouth need some thing to do.

I was drinking a six pack of bud by 9 in the morning, and by 0930 I was done. Had a few sodas then another six pack. This lasted about a week, and it sucked, butt I made it. A few months later i quit soda, and eased backed on the beer to only drinking after work. Now I am down to 1 beer a month. Now its just Starbucks coffee. The great part is that you will feel better, and your money will collect dust.

When you decide to be a nonsmoker, live like one. Clean out the truck, the garage, and so on. then ask all your smoking friends to stay away for awhile cause its going to suck.

I found that I had to really learn how to live life as a non smoker. I had to stop taking breaks at work with everone else, and since I didnt need to smoke I stopped taking breaks at work altogether.
Good luck

I smoke cigars only now and quit them for a year too only to start again a couple years ago due to job stress in a weak moment.
I bought an electronic cigarette called Fifty-One as it was recommended at the shop when I was going to be staying a few days at a non-smoking hotel in SD. I didn't try it until I stayed in the hotel and it either doesn't work or I couldn't get much of anything through it. Unfortunately I threw the receipt away and can't exchange it.
I don't know if Fifty-one is junk or I just got a bad one. I smoked outside the hotel during my stay regardless.

Quiting is hard and I've done it a few times. Starting again is way too easy and yes just one is enough.

I have a friend who was a life long smoker, couple of packs a day. He got one of the electronic gizmos two years ago and uses it all day every day. He still smokes a cigar or cigarette whenever someone offers but doesn't buy them like he used to. I too wonder about the long term affects of these things but they are a lot less offensive to others than the smoking.

Well, thanks for the replies, even the humorous ones. I have been a smoker for over 50 years and smoke anywhere from 2-3 packs a day. My wife also smokes. I spend around $500 bucks a month on this habit and I'm such a tightwad that it's killin' me. Thanks to genetics,I suppose,I'm not one of those coughing and hacking types. I enjoy smoking and haven't made up my mind to quit. I bought one of these things last Friday and have smoked 2 packs since then. So far, this E-cig is giving me my nicotine fix and taking care of the hand and mouth thing too. I'm hoping that if nothing more,I can cut my monetary outlay by about 67%. So far,so good. The only pia so far is having to recharge the battery. Takes a couple of hours, during which time,I smoke a couple of the real thing. I think if I can figure out some way to eliminate this,I'll have a real chance at quitting, but who knows? I might just buy a couple of more and keep one or more of them charging all of the time.

Well.....assuming you started at age 15 that puts you at 65 or so. How's your blood pressure? Any heart problems? If the answer is no-I'd go with Gator's soloution. I would think that any harm has already been done......so what the hell. Pipes are fun - I used to smoke one and just putting it together is kind of a chill in and of itself. Also as long as your wife smokes-you aren't gonna b able to quit anyway-or at least it will be that much harder..

36 years with a pipe only is my story...this past oct.23rd i laid it down cold turkey for what i believe is for good...had never tried to quit previously...we shall see....

Started smoking regularly at 12. I'm 63. Blood pressure: 125/78. No heart problems. Knock on wood. I am an insulin-dependent diabetic. Type II.
Any others have experience with the e-cigs?

Find a local meeting NA (Nicotine not Narcotics)(12 step even if you are not into a "Higher Power) or go to the Stop Smoking programs put on by the American Lung Association.

There ain't no gimmicks

Start by just calling them and they will send you all kinds of literature.

The one catch phrase that has kept me smoke free for a long time is:

Nothing much matters anymore if you can't breath.

Forget the cancer part, think COPD

You have already taken the first step. In order to quit smoking you need to first stop smoking.

I was smoking 2.5 packs a day when I quit 19 yrs ago. I went cold turkey and have not smoked since. It was actualy easier than I thought it would be. I now suffer from adult onset asthma a type of copd. My doctor has told me that had I not quit those years ago I would probably be dead now. I just had my 69th birthday.
