ELVIS SANDWICH

Sure - I still make them. But there are several variations. I prefer mine made with whole wheat bread and fried, like a toasted cheese sandwich. I think Elvis liked white bread and not fried.

Yes an TV interview with his cook said peanut butter banana sandwich fried with butter in iron skillet. Also if remember correctly with crust cut off with edges pinched together. TCB!

Once Elvis took Natalie Wood for a ride down in the Miss Delta to see a cotton Plantation he just bought.
I bet she was thrilled!
Down South Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich is a standard.
I have eaten a bunch!
But never fried.

My personal recipe is chunky, not smooth, PB, thin sliced bananas, whole wheat bread, buttered (or use margarine) and fried on the griddle. One banana is adequate for two Elvis sandwiches. Adding honey or jelly is a sacrilege to Elvis' memory.

About bananas.

I like them without any thing else when they "at the point".

If they get to ripe. They receive the "fried in butter, sugar and rum of top and set ablaze" routine.

No bread no PB involved.:D

Sorry, must be an acquired taste.

When, some years back, my family insisted on including Graceland in our road trip, I discovered they actually sell postcards with the sandwiches on them.

I grew up eating them, not fried though.

My updated version is a wrap -- soft tortilla with a thin coat of PB, thin layer of whatever jam is handy, scatter some dried cranberries or dried cherries on it, then roll it around a whole banana. Great with coffee for a quick easy breakfast, and you won't be hungry again till well into the afternoon.

Never had it fried, but one of my favorite sandwiches is peanut butter, banana, and honey on wheat.

I visited Graceland maybe 12 years ago, and the restaurant (diner...? cafeteria...?) had fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches on the menu. Didn't try one, as that was before I'd started eating peanut butter and banana sandwiches. IIRC, I had the meatloaf. I think it was called the Cadillac meatloaf. I remember liking it.
