My wife is president of the local independent school district band boosters and we've become very close with our young band director who, though a native of Northern California, fits in perfectly in Central Texas - in every way possible. I'm sort of "that uncle" in his life and happy to have "that nephew." He's (seriously) dating a fellow band director from a not-too-far-away town of comparable size and scope and they're both in the early 30s. They met at a football game last fall where both bands performed a halftime show.
My "nephew" has hunted our ranch, and shot the range, with me many times over the last few years but yesterday my wife and I hosted he and his steady at the ranch for a little range time - it's spring break for both their school systems. He's quite proficient with firearms and she's a pup on the trail. She had a GREAT time shooting a variety of handguns and my "nephew" had (IMHO) the perfect touch with her training. Several of our .32 S&W Long revolvers got a workout yesterday and proved a nice transition on their journey from .22 LR to .45 Colt examples. My wife made a fabulous lunch spread on the cabin porch and it was 65 degrees with cobalt blue skies and light breezes - the kind of weather we endure the summers for. These are some outstanding young people and we're so blessed to have them in our lives.
