Agreed, that's the current situation. It is the penultimate stage of panic buying. It started with someone forced to buy something other than his favorite brand escalated to the guys going out the door with pallets and has now reached the point of rationing with people buying as much as they can for fear there will never be any more. The final stage, unless rationing works, is when people are buying calibers they don't use as trading stock.

If any of you has reached the final stage, I know where there are 3 boxes of .303 Savage ammo.

Personally I blame Smith and Wesson for the .22 shortage. They created this shortage when they started selling the 15-22. .22 has never been more awesome to shoot than it is right now with that rifle.

Agreed 200%.

It's a good thing .22LR has always been so cheap. Stock piling those were worth every $1 spent over the years.

I dunno', you should buy ammo whenever you can find it at A GOOD PRICE.

A box left on the shelf is a good for the next guy, but never pass up dollars on sale for fifty cents.

I'm with other posters that worry what will happen when the other shoe drops.

I would hope that all of the stores as well as those that are commenting here, keep in mind that a significant number of people buying up all of the ammo at cheap prices, will be selling it at this weekends fleamarket. I wonder if their will be huge sales when it becomes plentiful again???.......Dan.

I'm really ticked that stores like Academy won't do this. I bought my SD9 there, but it took weeks to find ammo. Of course, they don't have a problem selling the entire inventory to the flippers in the morning while I'm at work.

Nothing at Wallys & Sportsman's Wherehouse today. Sigh. I was looking for 22lr ammo.
Fortunately my Crossman NP Trail pistol arrived this week & I have plenty of pellets to plink with.
It will have to do until the madness ends.

I set my own personal limit on ammo. 9mm (my primary caliber and the one I train with) gets a 1000 minimum and a 1500 round comfort limit. Once I get to 1500 rounds, I quit looking. It was that way before the ammo shortage and nothing has changed. My numbers may be good or they may be off but helps having a number in my head. If more people had a realistic number to aim for, the shortage would end sooner. Instead people get excited when they see ammo in stock and buy regardless if they need it or not. I'm not going to judge people if they think they need 10,000 rounds if they quit buying once they hit their limit.

Going to be really funny watching the hoarders desperately trying to unload the stockpiles at a heavily discounted price. The great ammunition bubble will burst soon (depending on current events) and those caught of guard will be squeezed. Look back on other notable bubble and bust macro economic events. This one could be big given the amount of ammo still be produced via manufactures running at 150%-200% capacity. Will be interesting to see what happens baring no more hostile current events and political headwinds.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'll bet a lot of these hoarders have never even fired a gun. I just want to go out and shoot once in a while and not have to worry about shooting all of my supply up. Well, I guess I can always sit in front of the TV and go clickity click with Snap Caps until this panic blows over.

I don't have a big problem with people who have stockpiled ammo over time or even those who now are buying everything they can. Those that are buying and trying to flip for profit are just trying to make a buck, it won't be my buck they are getting though.

The ones I have a problem with is the great karnacs who keep saying they saw this coming and have a stash and I am stupid or somehow less intelligent than they are because I didn't see it coming. That's insulting and I don't take kindly to it. I'd like to know just how they saw it coming? They knew the kid in CT would go ballistic and kill the 26 people? Doubt it.

So, anyone who saw it coming, what exactly did you see coming that made you hoard, err I mean stock up on ammo? Educate me so I may have the insight for the future.

It's not that they saw it coming,it's that there have been several shortages that I've seen since the eighties and I learned to keep a small stockpile of reloading supplies back when I did a lot of shooting.The 22 shortage did catch me by surprise though.As far as the psychics are concerned-I predicted the sun would come up this morning and it did! I'm brilliant ;-)

First there is no way I would call a yo e stupid for not seeing this coming. Some of us are just a little more observational, that's all. I saw the results of the 2008 election and the fact that it took the better part of two years to find .380 on the shelves - or small pistol primers for that matter. When I woke up the day after the 2012 election I figured I should be okay as I had started preparing in 2010 when I became a reloader. At that time I set aside whatever I could comfortably afford ( I had quit smoking so I had lots of mad money) and bought powder, primers and bullets weekly.

And unless our team comes up with a rock star soon there will be a Dem three-peat in 2016, and continued shortages and price hikes.

And Mister, you can take that to the bank!

I won't call anybody stupid but I'll ask why would ammo supply remain normal when everything else is upside-down? I also predict it will get worse sooner than you think.
