engraved model 27

I've got a beautiful nickel Model 27 fully engraved with stag grips with a 8 3/8" barrel. I obtained it thru a relatives estate, and know little about the history of the gun. Does not appear to have been fired much, if at all, comes with a wooden presentation case, and a receipt that shows it was purchased by my uncle back in 1990-used. I have no idea where the engraving was done, but a gunsmith told me it appears to be hand done. How would I go about finding out whatever is available infowise from Smith and Wesson? Anyone out there done this?

If you get the letter from Smith and tell them when you send in your form that it is engraved they will tell you if the factory did it.
