I want to get some work done on my 686P x 6" .357/.38. Was wondering if the following can be done by the Performance Center (?):

1. remove the pinned front orange ramp site and cut a standard dovetail

2. cut barrel from 6" to 5" (?)

3. upgrade to the ball bearing lock-up as found on the Performance Center revolvers (this is a VERY nice upgrade)

4. remove the ILS and plug-weld the hole

Is any of this stuff feasible/realistic to ask them? Thanks for any replies!

They will do #1 with no problem.
They will install a 5" barrel if they have one but I doubt they'll cut yours.
They might do a ball bearing lock up for you but it's no better than the
standard method and if you shoot lots of cast bullets it may actually not be as good due to accumulated residue in the yoke/frame area. Save your money.
They will not remove the internal locking system.

The ball detent is way better. A loose ejector rod won't tie up the gun. The one gun I have the ball detent on just happens to be the one that had the ejector rod work loose. Go figure. I have been really happy with the work done by Randy Lee @ Apex tactical. He is not the cheapest by any means but the work is good and that is the only thing that matters to me.

Guess I forgot about the loose rod syndrome. Had one of those in 1969. Have fired about 100K plus rounds since then and not suffered that one since.

I have some guns with rods that take so much force to bottom out that there is no way they will ever work loose. Others will bottom out with light finger pressure. I wish they were all like the former, and I suspect that most are.
