No. No. No. No. Now.
I am thinking of mounting an optic for my 686 PC Competitor but for now I am using the excellent installed sights for testing of .38 Wadcutter (148 gr @700+fps) to the maximum psi violent load of Remington 125gr semi-jacketed hollow points at around 1550 fps or so. That is the load that will cut the top strap apart with enough firing to kill the gun in .357 Magnum made anywhere by anybody other than SW.
Flame cutting in the 125gr SJHP original Reno Police Department Issue in the 70's and 80's. We carried 19's, 66's, and Highway Patrolman 28's in those days. We kept our 27's for our own enjoyment because they were too pristine for that sort of tear down in leathered Sam Browne.
Today the N frame in 29 is my personal conceal carry in 4". It is accurate without lots of recoil to bruise.
Perhaps the PDs need to reconsider hiring officers for academy who can handle an N Frame in 29 and use .44 Special for training while issuing 180 grain Semi Jacketed Hollow Points at 1600 fps.
I'd sign up but I'm 58 years old now and I think they'd like younger bones to try that feat. Less shots without spraying and praying.
The EO Tech to my current knowledge is not under fire anymore than other sights mounted.
What I really want is a fixed 4X from Burris in handgun scope to mount above but that I have and it is larger longer than I like above on the rail mount. So far the sights being like SW 41 sights make me think an optic is not necessary. On the rifle M4 an optic is needed for night or lack of light. I'd like to find an illuminated cross hair I've seen by Trijicon...
