Escape from L.A. smith and wesson

Hi, new to the forum. Long time s&w lover. To be honest I signed up to get some info from you folks who are more learned than I am. Hopefully someone can help me. Escape from New York and LA are 2 of my favorite movies, right up there with tombstone, the good the bad and the ugly and Jeremiah Johnson. In escape from la I have been in love with snakes pistols in that movie. Imfdb has them listed as the classic hunter 629. I find that the 629 competitor which I own to be the closest thing available to these pistols. I did a little more research and found them to be almost exactly like the lew Horton 629 classic hunters his company did. Is that what they are? I’m gonna try to include some pics. Hopefully it will work. I’m not the most tech savvy person on her for sure. I had originally thought that smith and Wesson could make custom pistols but I’m getting the run around when I call smith and Wesson. I would like to get a 629 competitor without the window cut outs on the weighted barrel and with a unfluted cylinder to match snakes as much as possible. The lew hortons are ridiculously expensive. I really don’t want to drop 3500 for a pistol I could order if possible. Any help or info on the special order or if they only were made by lew Horton would be great. Thanks in advance.

Yes, those are Lew Horton made 629-4 that came out in '96. They came in a fluted and unfluted flavor. I had my eye on one of these about 10 years ago but decided to go with a v-comp instead.

Not sure if you know, but there are adjustable weights in the lug that you can remove or add to your liking. The ugly windowed one that you are referring to came out about 3 years later and used the same weight system but is a totally different gun.

There is no way to "order" one as this was a limited production run.

Wow thank you all for the warm welcome and the responses. Gary hk, that’s pretty much what I was expecting but did not want to be the case. I agree the competitor is the only thing similar that I can find from s&w. I really don’t like the cut away windows. I did actually have one a while ago so I’m familiar with the weights which is an awesome addition. I really noticed a difference when I shot them with the weights adjusted. I guess I’m gonna have to buckle down and get one when and if I get another chance. Thanks again for the welcome and info guys. I’ll keep you guys posted!

Raljr1 yes! I’m a huuuuuuuge history buff and a fan of the west. 19th century. So any chance I get it read in my hero’s from the west I take it. I actually own crow killer and mountain man and have read both. Liver eating Johnson is a bit of a hero of mine right up with doc Holliday Wyatt Earp, billy the kid, Jim Bridget, kit Carson, just to name a few. My pop pop showed me the the movie when I was a boy and I became enamored with the film at that point even though I didn’t understand what was all happening. Learning about John Johnston has been a pro ledge to learn he was based on a true very powerful hero from the past to me. Thanks for asking!
