Hi All, I'm new & dumb, but I thought the .357 magnum wasn't out until the 1950's?? Ray

Before Gwimer had it a guy named Collectingtexas was trying to sell it on GB. But he couldn't even get half what Gwimer is asking for it...

The first auction...

I stumbles across that RM yesterday. Thought the $14,900+ starting price was, oh just a tad, too steep. Then I noticed who the seller was, nuff said.

Oh, just typical Wimmereconomics to me. Just check his web site for a laugh or two but then he's still in business so he must sell one now and then! But, 'the man' once said their's one born every minute and George must know all of them by now. MAK

With this number you can see the Model 41-1 "Set" that he put together and was offering last Spring for 10K and didn't find a buyer for either. The 'bare' Model 41-1 sold at the SLC Association Meeting in June of '06. Does that tell you anything??? MAK

I always heard that things were more expensive on the west coast. I now know who to sell my stuff to when I get ready to sell!

I always heard that there were still a few places out west that civilization, law or the chruch have not reached...

Now I believe it.

This is just Wimer's style......he starts at an astounding high price and gradually marks it down until he gets a bite. I call it "The Dummy of the Day" marketing strategy.

He is also notorious for overstating condition but I've heard he does take back the gun if you complain. I have never been able to even try to deal with him. He has had his problems with the Smith & Wesson Collectors' Association.

I have bought from him and actually feel I got a reasonable deal.

My observation is that you have to hit his site every few days and watch the prices. He will lower them a bit at a time then all of a sudden the price will just drop like a rock as he pulls together money to buy something else.

I bought a couple of guns from him and was pleased with the deal. I got them at or below the current going value because I just waited it out. I heard later he had to roof his house or something like that so my deal worked nicely.

Woudl I buy from him again? Sure if he would let me. I was interested in a triple lock at one time but he complained a lot in his emails that I was taking advantage of him. So I politely declined the sale saying I did not want him to lose on the deal and feel he was unfairly treated. I thought it was a reasonable deal but he came unglued in the next email back.

So bottom line? I think that you can get a reasonable and fair deal with Wimer if you try. I know I am still happy with my two guns.

I think that would have it for me. If a person came "unglued" around me for me wanting to spend my hard earned dollars with them, I think I'd either leave never to return, or do my best to put them out of business through word of mouth. I wouldn't lose sleep over it though.

Sounds like a real "trophy."
I suspect I shall run into him at a show...I will be watching...may have some fun!

I have never seen a Wimer deal that I would consider reasonable. It seems to me that he feels that if he is not totaly bending you over he is getting the short end.

I have had several dealings with George. I also have a close friend who deals with him on a regular basis.

This is how George rolls. He pays top dollar sometimes over full retail for nice guns. I know I have sold him some. Then he sits on them until he knows the value has gone up or the supply is exhausted. Then he puts them out at his asking price. He's always open for offers. Sometimes his money gets tight and he blows a few out at cost. Sometimes below cost. Been there and done that with him. He's a personable type guy.

I've also had to send a few back to him. One went back with some obvious flaws that he should have caught. But he made it right twice over. Sent me another K-32 that was NIB for the cost of the 95% gun. Plus paid shipping all around.

Ask your self this question. If you fell into a very large sum of money. Say the lottery for 16 million. Wouldn't you give George a call and buy everything you see on his list you want?

I know I would.

Bruce

I might give him a call, but believe you me, I would make an offer
on all those guns !

George is OK - I've bought guns from him in the past, and never
had a problem. Its my view that he gets carried away with his pricing,
but not for too long ! Eventually, if it doesn't sell, he does come
back to something more realistic.

But I would say that he does take the risk of buying really good guns.
He must know that he is paying top dollar, so the part I don't get is
why he doubles or triples that. If its already top price, and everyone
knows that, how can he expect to get double or triple that ? Maybe
he assumes that everyone doesn't know ?

There is something about that Evansville RM that doesn't look right,
to me. Those grips appear to look refinished, and parts of the gun
itself look refinished. The cylinder-cutout area looks as though the
gun has never been fired, and yet there are lots of scratches in the
finish on the frame. The gun just doesn't look consistent, overall.

Bruce- Does he actually make a living this way or is this just a hobby with him? He needs to go to the local community college and take Econ 101.

Doc I not sure but I believe he does. I've never met him in person or socialized with him. Maybe some of our forum members have and will speak up. I do know that his father started the business many years ago. As far back as I can remember they had ad's in Shotgun News.

I don't think he has a store front and only does mail order, internet and show sales. So that cut's a lot of costs. His FFL is probably grandfathered in or he has a very small shop by appointment only.

He used to do the Puyallup WAC Gun Shows but I haven't seen him in a number of years. Most everyone got wise to his pricing years ago but from what I've been told he has "Family Money" and the guns are just a hobby for him. I know he's been 'trying' to sell a Model 41-1 that he purchased at the Annual Meeting in SLC as a "complete set" on GB for some time. All he got in SLC was the bare gun but now he is trying to contend that it is "as originally shipped" with the second barrel etc. When he first Posted this on GB he had a minimum price of 10K. Last time I looked he had dropped that to $7,500. but is still trying to sell it as Factory originally shipped this way. I understand the price on the 41-1 bare gun was $1,000.00 when he purchased it in 2006. He does manage to "apply" some interesting 'Math' to his purchases! And, find some 'things' that weren't originally present in his purchases!
