Ever Try to Make a Holster?

For concealment holsters I use 7-8 ounce, for larger gun non-CCW I go to 8-9 ounce.

Buy your leather from Springfield Leather in Missouri. The sell the best...Hermann Oak.
I usually buy a "Belt Bend, which is one side of the hide and the very best part.
There's no waste and no wrinkles or scars.
They also sell small grade 1 Herman Oak from 6x6 to 24x24 inches for small jobs.
There's nothing worse then spending time and money on a holster only to have it fail because of substandard flabby leather.

I've made a lot of holsters over the years for customers and friends and family, most CCW types.
Here's a few......
A nieces lawn mowing holster. A version of the M7 Tanker for a Ruger.

My take on the Bianchi 5B

My take on the old Stein Leather "Snatch holster". The snap is a pull-through, not a thumb break. Just grab the gun and "snatch" it out.

A S&W shoulder holster for a woman realtor. Showing houses to strangers can be dangerous. She's dangerous right back at them.

Cross draw for a Kahr Arms K9.

Cross draws for a S&W Model 66 2 1/2 inch and a S&W Model 66 3 inch.

A fun European type military holster for a Sarsilmaz SAR 2000 9mm.

I have made a few knife sheaths but never a holster. My late uncle made a few for his BP revolvers. He would start with a worn out cowboy boot from the used clothing stores. Cut the tops off and start forming and sewing.

He helped liberate several Nazi prison camps and knew what he wanted in a handgun. The family found out the particulars of his service after he had passed from a old diary.

Appreciate this info. Are you hand sticking it all? Well done.

When I started handgun hunting I used a scoped Blackhawk. There were no commercial holsters that fit it, so I decided to make my own.

A local shoemaker sold me a a huge piece of leather and I made several holsters with it. When he refused to sell me more, I went to Tandy and found their price was too high. Never made another holster after that.

I haven't done any leatherwork in years, have some Cold Winter Night projects planned.
1. Measure twice, cut once.
2. Investing in proper tools pays off very quickly.
3. Read everything you can.
4. Start with something simple, like a belt slide.
5. Blocking and forming the holster/sheath around the item is very important.

my late father was a leather master... made holsters for my cap guns... it was his creative outlet and therapy... he made stuff for local police & arson investigators... full competition rigs for IPSC... badge & handcuff holders... I have his patterns and some of his tools.. but last holster I actually made was with him, a combo carry system that worked in a shoulder holster rig and both strong & weak side... made 2.. 1 of a 4" K frame & 1 for my Taurus PT99 (M9ish).. wish I had one for a 1911 & L & N frame as well.. but he passed and I lost that desire...
