Experiences with 422?

Did I read that correctly? You bought a 2206 when they first came out and it never ran right and you kept it until 3 years ago?

So you either fought with it -- or it lay dormant -- for 30 years...?

I fought with it for a while and stuck it in the back of my safe and forgot about it. I guess it was four years ago I pulled it out and tried it again but it hadn’t healed itself. I sent it again to Smith and again no joy. Enough was enough and I’m now the proud owner of a beautiful Winchester 62a.

I’ve seen cars like this that no matter what you do they never run right. It may been the alignment of the planets and stars but some machines never function right and never will no matter how much time and money you put into it.

My EX had a 1985 Trans Am with the works and injected engine, everything. The thing would literally not make it out of the county. In 6 months there were 5 new sets of injectors installed, new transmission and new electrical harness. That’s not counting the little stuff. That amounted to 45 days in the shop in six months.

I got it replaced under the lemon law and 20 minutes after driving it off the lot the electrical system failed and the the battery actually burst sending battery acid all over the engine and engine compartment. Within the hour I and my wife’s new car were back at the dealer with my car behind a wrecker.

Pardon the slight drift here but I picked up a 2213 a while back and really like it. I only wish I could find another magazine for it.

I had a new 2206 and it shot just fine, but I just never really cared for it and sold it. Now trading a 2206 for a Winchester 62A? That was an outstanding trade!

422

My uncle taught me to shoot on a 422, and it was a great gun. Twenty years later I've started buying different variants. I have the 2213,2214, and just recentlty the 622 VR. Just realized they made a 4.5" VR, and now the search continues.

Coming home today!

Picking up my 422 today and hope to shoot it this weekend. I've tried searching for some manufactured date info but haven't had any luck. The serial number is TBZ26nn. Anyone have an idea what year mine was made?

Shoot S&W an e-mail with the serial number and they should have a date for you.

I like to keep track of weird things...

From previous my notes I have TBS7XXX and TCB1XXX reported as 1988.

I'd say there is a pretty good chance TBZ26XX is 1988 as well.

Thanks shoot summ, I appreciate your great recall abilities! I think mine looks pretty good for 35 y.o.!

I love my 6" 422. I picked up a threaded bushing that replaced the original barrel bushing off of Ebay.It came with a knurled sleeve to protect the threads. I don't have a can for it yet, but someday.
