Today marks the end of my M590A1 defense rig buil:




This little gun started life as a dirt cheap police trade in from a big department. It has the dings and dents but mechanically was perfect.

The mag tube was lightly rusted and the spring was shot so I thoroughly refinished the tube and changed the spring. Today, I added a +1 extension from SJ Hardware to bring the shots up to 6+1.

The gun handles extremely well. I also added a Magpul short stock and a light mount with a Surefire and a 2-point sling, plus a Velcro side saddle for more rounds.

Life is good.

My HD shotgun is a Remington 870 I bought around 25 years ago as Akron, Ohio PD surplus. I've added a Surefire light (two CR123 batteries) and a nylon sling. On the buttstock a 6-round sleave. Works very well, but a little ugly! I live in town now, so I keep it loaded (empty chamber) with 1 1/8 ounce of 7.5's, to keep from going through the walls and hurting my neighbors. When I lived country, #4 buck and slugs were the loadout (no neighbors close enough to hurt).

If you live in an old enough home to have real plaster on the walls. I found from experiments that small shot won't penetrate along the side of a hallway you are shooting down. Slugs and Buckshot will. My kids were in those rooms beside the hall!

My personal tests proved, that almost any wood door will be penetrated by slogs and buckshot! Steel skinned and foam filled doors were somewhat handgun and shotgun bullet proof. Not much in civilian construction will stands up to 308 FMJ or AP and 223 up close is almost as bad!!
