Exterior home security cameras

I'm considering installing 6 - 8 exterior cameras covering approaches and entry points at my house. Presumably battery operated, with recording capability and the ability to delete inconsequential portions of the recordings.
Electronically, I am a barely functional illiterate, but capable of learning. Looks like, among other things, I'll need to learn how the "cloud" works for storage and retrieval.

I'd appreciate suggestions re what criteria I need to consider in choosing camera systems, and any recommendations for particular nrands or types of systems.

In 2016 I purchased and installed 5 Arlo Wireless cameras around my home and they are capable of 720p resolution. Each camera is powered by 4 — 3 volt batteries. Pretty good system but technology has passed them by and Arlo has stopped support and updates. Sound familiar? I am still using them.
Just last month I began to research many different brands of doorbells, cameras and systems.I settled on Ring Security Cameras. I’ve installed Ring Brand Doorbell, back yard Ring Solar Powered Spotlight Camera, and a hardwired Ring Floodlight Camera on my attached garage. The Ring Doorbell has 1530P resolution and the Floodlight and Spotlight Cameras are 1080p resolution. The video and motion detection and perimeters and zones are all adjustable and work great. I returned 2 Ring Solar powered Spotlight Camera Systems I found I didn’t need after getting these up and running. I then purchased the Ring Protection + Plan for $100 per year that saves all camera information, till the cows come home.
I am impressed with the Ring Security System so far.

Take a look at SimpliSafe. A couple friends have it for their security system. It's nice because you select items ala carte. They offer both inside and outside wireless cameras. If you so choose, you can also sign up alarm monitoring. Very flexible. They offer do-it-yourself setup or their own installers.

I installed a Blink 4 camera setup around my house. @ AA LI batteries, they will go for months up to a year on one set of batteries. Video and audio. (You can yell at someone skulking around your camera location). On Amazon.

I keep hidden cameras inside to supplement those outside. Think about inside coverage of entry points and near where valuables are kept.

Remember--unless you have a security team monitoring the cameras, they only provide evidence, not much security.

We actually have one as a dog cam. When we go out the dog spends the day on or near the couch.

Also comes in handy who is in our home when we go away and the son is having a small get together at the house.

All useless when a real criminal pitches up with a Wifi jammer. Yes, they are a thing.

Thinking about hidden or “ camo” hardwired camera system. Seems way to easy to spray paint or demo visible cameras.

I have 5 Ring cameras and 3 SimpliSafe cameras. The SS ones are inside the house and SimpliSafe dispatch can view them only if the is a triggered alarm. I have had both for the past 5 years for the Ring cameras, and over 10 years with SimpliSafe. Never had a problem with either system. I’ve had 2 false alarms that generated a very quick police response, both were my fault. Our PD gives you 2 free false alarms per year, then it’s 25 bucks.

Not too worried about the “WiFi Jammers”….every house on our street has Ring cameras, and 4 have SimpliSafe alarms. If SimpliSafe does get jammed it automatically switches over to a Cell connection.
