Exterior Maintenance?

I'm relatively new to handguns and was wondering about what you do in terms of exterior cleaning and cosmetic maintenance? I think I have the bore and cylinder cleaning thing down but what about the outside? Wax? Wipe down with an oily cloth? silicon cloth?

Any one of those three will work.I tend to use either oil or renwax.

renaissance wax is the way to go...I look at it like this way,you don't use a oily rag on your car....you wax it

I clean with Hoppes #9. Wipe the firearm down with a clean dry cotton t-shirt and then wipe the firearm down with a silicone treated cloth to remove finger prints before it gets put away.

An oily cloth has always done the trick for me.

I like Renaissance or J&J. They usually end up with a certain amount of oil on them also.

I suppose Renwax is good for an often handled & rarely shot gun but for a gun that gets shot routinely, Renwax would be a bit of a chore. All oil must be removed prior to applying Renwax. I just wipe them down with some Rig #2 Oil - but any gun oil or protectant should work fine.
