Took my new to me 686-5 to the range today. I just got it back from S&W a couple weeks ago as when I bought it in July I found that the barrel was canted to the left a noticeable amount. S&W took care of it and straightened it out for me. I put 150 round of reloads and Speer Gold Dot 38+P through it. Boy can that gun shoot! I've got a 19-3 that was issued to me when I went through the police academy in 1975 and bought from my department when we switched to semi-autos. When I was carrying it on duty I took it to S&W about 4 times and had them go through it, smooth the trigger and action so it shoots like butter. The 686 is the closest revolver I've ever shot to my 19 (which is now a safe queen due to sentimental reasons). I'm very impressed with the factory trigger on the 686, nice and smooth. It stays consistently on target when shooting and absorbs the recoil of the +P ammo without a hitch. The only issue I had was with my speedloaders, not the gun. I got Safariland Comp II speedloaders for it. I like that they really hold the bullets securely but they're a tight fit against the grips and cylinder release when trying to load. Just going to need some more practice with it that's all. Overall though, now I know why everyone raves about the 686. I had intended on buying a 2020 Colt Python...until I saw the prices. I didn't want a revolver with a lock and managed to find mine on Gunbroker. I see a lot of revolver time in my future!
