Some years ago I came upon this interesting 686-5 Plus. It has a 7" barrel and a fluted cylinder. I've only ever seen this model with a smooth cylinder.
I sent photos of this revolver to Roy Jinks and showed it to some S&W self-proclaimed experts that I know. They all agree that it's a rare bird, not a Frankengun.
Some think that it is 1 of 72 made for the top S&W dealers and executives. Sadly, I don't have the original box. It has been fired but is in near perfect condition.
I think I'll just leave it in the safe with the letter from Roy and let my son find it when he is liquidating my estate.
