Is the price $5750 or $3750? Either one seems pretty high. I cannot comment on the engraving if it is factory or not. BUT, for that kind of money the seller should have a factory letter. Was the seller purporting it to be factory engraved?

price is $3750 he says he had it lettered but lost the letter HMMMMMMMM

Losing a letter is one thing - Does he remember what the letter said, or did
he lose his memory also ? Or maybe he couldn't read the letter, so he through
it away ? Personally, when I hear things like that, I walk the other way.

I'm not an expert, but lot-line to lot-line engraving was not factory, back
in that period. This may be engraving of the period, but I doubt that it is
factory. Some of the large distributors had engravers working for them.

This is definately NOT factory engraving and is medium to average quality distributor engraving. The gun is worth maybe $700 tops to some one who collects examples of after market engraving. 75% of this model was shipped to M.W.Robinson as plain guns. This seller is just looking for a sucker. Ed.

I'd almost bet that if you lettered it, it went to M.W.Robinson in New York and the engraving was done there. It appears to be period and done in the "New York" style.
I would also be very concerned that the cylinder (right side, just below the plastic tie) appears to be cracked.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I showed the guy your responses and wont repeat what he said

I did pick up a nice old S&W though and will post on it seperately.

Thanks again

Most of us are over 21, so we are big kids. We answered your
questions with no holds barred, so we'd like to know what the
owner had to say, in response to our comments. We played the game
with you, sight unseen. So, return the favor.

I realize that most are over 21 but I wont write what he said because the of the Foulness of the words. I dont feel that they are neccessary to be put into writing.

Dan, I would bet the seller's oratory matches his business ethics - both in the sewer! (The seller doesn't happen to have a web site for antique gun auctions, does he? If so, he has been misreprenting items for sometime.) Ed.

DanM;

You don't show your location and don't say where this particular "Show" was located. Just for general reference the old saying "Location, Location, Location" also refers to what a particular Item is bringing in "That" location.

If you are "Really" interested in "Collecting" Smith & Wessons, I would suggest becoming a member of the S&WCA. As an example, I Posted a request for a "Shipping Date" on that Forum at 07:12 this morning and I had a reply from Roy Jinks at 10:02! Sometimes he can provide a great deal more general information than just the Shipping Date but that is the main thing he does without a Letter request.

Now, as to this particular gun - Run, don't walk away!

Thanks for the info, I forgot that I had edited my profile several months ago to not show the personal stuff when I was getting flamed by some on this board and lots of emails on the side some good and some bad.

I am in Tucson AZ and so was this show.

And you are right I should join S&WCA and will try and find that info this evening and "get er Done"

Thanks

Dan

Ed,

No it is not mine, it was on a table at a show, you know the gun?

Dan

Dan, The gun looked familiar to me, somehow. I go to most all of the Tucson shows, so I might have seen it there. I usually stop an examine any engraved S&Ws I see on tables, so that may be why it stuck in my mind, if that's where you saw it. Ed.

Ed,
This one has been on this guys table for at least a year so you probably did see it. He was trying to work me on a trade for an old Winchester I own and is why I posted the question. He left unhappy and I have the Members of this Forum to thank for that.

Thank you to Everyone who responded

Dan
