I'm not sure if this is the right place for this thread, but I just wanted to express my appreciation for S&W.
About 4-5 years ago I bought a used 640-1 that seemed to be in great shape (I didn't know what to look for then, other than cosmetics). I shot it very little over the following years and also learned alot about revolvers as I added a few more.
I recently ordered a police trade Model 67 and was going through the spec checks, when I figured I would check the cylinder/barrel gap of my other smith's just out of curiosity.
Well, my what still looked new 640-1 had a gap of .011 on a few cylinders and .012, I always thought it kind of "spit" but never gave it a second thought until now.
So I figure I'd give the factory a call and see what they said, and was told to send it in.
I'm expecting to get a call or email stating they did not find anything out of spec, or due to some warranty fine print I'd have to pay some crazy amount to get it fixed.
Well today, while opening what I thought was a MidwayUSA order that I've been waiting for, I find to my suprise my 640-1 smiling at me.
Inside, a note stating they removed and replaced my old barrel with a new one and cut the forcing cone to specs. My gap now measures .005 SWEET!!! They also took out the little bit of yoke and end shake it had too!
Sorry for the long winded post, but I'm blown away that a company would invest that kind of time and $$ to fix a 10 year old gun belonging to who knows how many owners before me for free! You don't run into many freebies in our hobby.
I'll never think twice about buying another S&W again......well, as long as it doesn't have "the lock".......
pics a little dark, but I know how everyone loves a pic...so here she is
