Factory letter

My mdl10 2" was made in 1967,the grips are non-diamonds but are numbered to the gun.
Would it be worth it to send and get a letter to find out when this gun was shipped?

Not to me unless I thought there was some reason to believe it was something special or went to someone special. I'd save the $50 for ammo or the next gun. JMO.

The price was raised to $50 for the purpose of reducing the number of requests.

I'm not trying to be confrontational, but I've never heard that explanation. I believe the S&W website had a paragraph about suspending factory letters at one point, but the only information it gave about a price increase was something like "due to increased costs". I'm sure requests went down as the price went up, but I've never heard that was the "purpose". Do you mind explaining your comment?

I've got a -2 M17 from 1967 with numbered non diamond grips, that must not be uncommon as they were in the middle of changing to non diamond

I recently requested three letters of authenticity for my pre-1900 S&W guns. The price is $50.00 per request. The letter does increase the value of the gun as to the manufcture date, grips or other features when it was manufactured. Also, the date the gun was shipped from S&W and to the destination dealer. As for your gun, it is simply subjective if you want to spend the money for a 1967 gun.

i thought hard about paying that kind of money for a letter for a 3" 66-4, but did a little math and figured that staying away from the tavern for a few weekends would cover it.
got the letter in less than a month...it stated how many 3" 66s were made overall, when mine was shipped, and to where....the only info missing that i would like to have known is how many were made for that particular special order that the gun was part of.
