factory red thread locker ?

It appears on many factory guns there is a red substance that acts as a very mild thread locker (it is clearly not red loc tite as that is very resistant to removal). I have a 629 that the crane screw keeps loosening on and wanted to use an appropriate thread compound, also one that won't gum up the spring loaded plunger action of the screw. Any suggestions?

Some people use clear nail polish. Some others use the Blue Loctite #242. Clean threads 1st with something like lighter fluid to remove all oil; then apply small amount to the threads.

It appears to be red RTV because it is rubbery. I use blue Loctite on gun screws.

I have never had to resort to using Locktite on a gun, but if you are experiencing a screw constantly loosen up I would use BLUE Locktite. Just use it sparingly!
