I am not sure but this maybe should be in the reloading forum. But since it involves specifically a M&P 40 I'll put it here first.
I have loaded a Missouri Bullets 180 grain Lead TC into some mixed cases with 5.0 grains of Win 231. The chronograph tells me this makes major power, 176. Nice load.
I have put 1000 rounds or so through this firearm since I got it at the beginning of the year. The bullets are Missouri Bullets 140 grain lead TC loaded at 1000 fps and 165 grain fmj plated at the same fps at 1009 fps. These have had no problem.
Here is the problem: It is the 180 grain TC. I will shoot 10 to 12 rounds and get a failure to feed. The round hangs up. I can clear it and go one.
These 180 grains rounds seem unusually dirty compared to the others rounds. All use 5.0 grains of 231, well the 165 grain fmj use 5.3 grains.
All rounds are loaded with a Lee crimp die. Seating and crimping are separate operations.
I like the 180 grain load, recoil is manageable and accurate compared to me anyway.
Any suggestions on a cure or something I should pay attention to?
