This has occurred twice now in about 500 rounds, so now I am concerned. My new-to-me (Manufactured 2013) M&P 45c is experiencing an occasional failure to fire. I picked up a (barely) used M&P 45c last month, I live in MA so before I even shot it I had a gunsmith adjust the trigger from the required 10+ lbs to 5.5 lbs. The first and second times at the range were great, I was really enjoying this firearm. Each time I shot about 150 rounds.

Last week I went back to the range and brought 100 rounds of Federal ammo with me. I shoot 97 rounds with no problems, I now have 3 left. I load the remaining cartridges (keep in mind the action is open from the last fire), rack the slide and when I pull the trigger I hear a click but no boom. Very unusual, since my other M&P has eaten 2000+ rounds in the past 6 months with 0 failures of any kind. I wait a few seconds and eject the round. The primer looks untouched, so I put it back in the magazine and proceed to fire 3 shots perfectly.

In an attempt to reproduce the issue I went to the range again yesterday. Using Winchester ammo this time, I shoot about 30 rounds and load a new magazine. Click but no boom. I wait, eject the round, see no visible primer strike and reload. From then on the pistol functions fine.

This is my backup carry so I am quite concerned, should I contact the gunsmith who did the trigger job or investigate another issue? Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

I'm not a smith, but this seems to be a light striker issue (the striker is not making it to the primer).

I would certainly call the shop that reduced the trigger pull and have them take a look at it.

I was getting light primer hits with both my 9c and 5" Pro. Difference is that I had Apex kits in them. I strongly suspected the trigger bar loop being open too much. I was lazy and brought them to my gunsmith. Told him what it they were doing. Long story short, I was right, it was my candy cane loop. He adjusted the loop on both guns, and now, no issues.

I would start by finding out what the smith did to "adjust" the trigger pull. Did he/she install the Apex DCAEK?
If it was a polishing job they may have disturbed the trigger bar loop adjustment as AGoyette indicated.
I'm in Mass also and put the DCAEK in my 45c and have had no problems at all.

UPDATE

I got the firearm back today from the gunsmith. He did not find anything wrong with the gun and assured me the trigger job didn't cause any issue. He did however replace the striker spring, clean up the striker assembly, and polish the breech face - free of charge. I put 200 rounds through it at the range today with no issues. At this point I think I need a few more rounds to declare the issue solved but I wanted to share my feedback with the forum. One thing the gunsmith suggested is the ejector might be a little too tight, and the firearm is failing to go into battery. This seems like a plausible explanation, I don't recall checking for this when I experienced FTF but if it happens again I will and share my experience. Thanks All!

Oil in the striker channel is a big no no and a cause to light/no strikes

Maybe when you lubed or cleaned you accidentally got some in?

I fail to see how the "candy cane" being misadjusted can cause a light strike. All it does is move the sear. If it moves the sear enough to release the striker, then it's good.

The striker movement is not governed by the trigger bar loop at all.
