I have a Winchester Model 70 chambered in .223 in good condition. I've been wanting a pistol caliber carbine, specifically a lever action .357. Thinking of a Marlin 1894C. Is this a fair trade for myself and whomever I may seek to trade with?

Well, I'm in no hurry. The local news station has free online classifieds. I've had pretty good luck there. Traded a first year New Model Ruger Single Six .22 (1973) for a S&W Model 17 double action .22. Trades are like auctions, you never know what someone is willing to trade.

The Marlins are near-to-over 4-figures now in here in AZ, depending on configuration. I have zero clue on your bolt-gun, other than I would think it's a great tool for doggin' in prairie-dog territory.
Assuming your M70 is newer, and taking into consideration that .223 isn’t a particularly desirable caliber in a M70, I still think it’s worth more than a Marlin lever action in any pistol caliber except.22lr.

From what I have gathered, I believe my Model 70 was manufactured in 1984. I've not yet convinced myself to get rid of it. As much as I like the idea of a PCC and like the .357 cartridge, this small carbine is quite handy. Living on the plains of South Dakota, having a rifle with a little more range might be beneficial.

Basis for Potential
Two decades ago a friend took a M70 in 223 HB and turned it into a High Power Natl Match course rifle complete with Mid Tompkins front, and Redfield Intl rear sight, Macmillian stock w hand rail. He made some 5 round stripper clips from bandolier ball ammo h ware. I wish I had bought it when offered to me. I had shot into Master class with a m70 in 30 06 same configuration. That out of the way, I would hold out for a 30-30 or "Thuddy Thuddy" in Jack O'Connor accent.
