After reading several threads regarding fake suppressors and noticing just how cool they look on the poster's rifles, I decided what the hell, I'm gonna make one for my Anchutz Model 54. Should I use schedule 40 or Schedule 80 PVC? I'm also thinking of using high temperature flat black bar b que paint for durability but it only comes in flat black which will not look that good against the blue barrel. Would it be OK to use a lower grade of spray paint so I can get the colors to match up or should I just bite the bullet and explain to those who ask that suppressors are supposed to be flat black? SInce I use a scope on this rifle, rather than the open sights, I will probably grind off the front sight rather than try to cut the PVC to fit around it.
Well, I've got my project for the weekend now it's off to Lowe's.

I would think twice about grinding off the front sight for a fake suppressor.
Of course, you may be able to put a Bubba-Gump Shrimp banner on it.
I hear there's money in advertising.

why not just get a real suppressor? The process is really pretty simple.

Welcome to the Airsoft Generation

Absolutely amazing… I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks it’s nuts.

They cut, grind, paint and swap parts on a brand new gun. Style over substance. They like to doll-up their tiny cars too. It goes against everything I was ever learned. I guess the rifle section is the new hangout for kids and they’re making me feel really old.

Other then having to hold your tongue just right when you load it only Federal bulk pack… and the occasional launched extractor… oh, and the broken feed ramps…, I hear it's a great gun! Free magazines with every return trip!

You know most of their shooting is done with a video game controller anyway.

I don't think I've ever perused the long gun section. I've just been there, and I don't recognize the names of any of the posters. Is this a forum within a forum?

Don't worry about it Steave.
Just a lawyer trick they teach at CajunU.
Called cross-threading.
Used to trip up sincere types or anyone who takes them seriously.

Cajunlawyer had me going for a minute there too. Good one!

The whole idea is preposterous and absurd.

Caj: When you get deep into your proposed project you need to think out of the box a little and include one of those brass catcher net thingy. That would allow you to catch all that once-fired brass and reload it. Got to be economical for the next three years. :-)

Gosh, this whole subject has got my mind racing. DO NOT forget the picatinny rail with at least 6 sides to it. Imagine all the stuff you could hang off that Tactical Anschutz Model 54. ....... Big Cholla

You should probably take a step back, and shut your mouth. Just because someone likes black guns, and accessorizing them, DOES NOT make them/us 'kids'. That's about the most ignorant, jacka$$ statement I've heard from an 'old' guy, in quite a while. And for the record, 90% of us are about style AND function. If that doesn't fit into your narrow mind, too bad for you. Maybe you should change your way of thinking.

Clearly the gun has flaws. No one is denying that. That's half of the reason why we're on the forum in the first place, so we can share our issues, and try to solve them.

If something is badly flawed... I generally dont buy it :D
Then again I dont have Mall Ninja blood running thru my veins...
A good battle rifle isnt a bad thing, I have another M1A on the "to buy" list.

That's not the issue. Accesorizing guns is cool-but putting a fake suppressor on a gun makes as much sense as putting a fake flashlight on it. Whoaaaaaaa Wait a minute!!! I may have someting there. I'll put a fake flashlight under my fake suppressor on my Anshutz 54-damn it's back to Lowe's-hope I can make it back for the game.

I completely agree. I personally have always stayed with the .22lr for the fact that they are cheap. I personally own multiple Anchutz, Kimber, and Winchester 52s, plus a few dozen other .22lr. They are all great shooting guns and can put a single hole at 75-100yrd. but after awhile that gets boring. So when the S&W15-22 came along I decided to get one. I have had a lot of fun with it and am considering getting a second one.

P.S. "It goes against everything I was ever learned." - Great English!

..to you! whos putting fake flashlights on, anyway? I havnt seen any.
either way, fake flashlight or not, a fake can makes plenty of sense. It changes the entire look of the gun. not to mention, the first images distributed by S&W had one on it, and it looked good. if you dont like it, thats yours opinion. it sure as hell doesnt make you right!

I have always been of the mindset... function over form.
A lot of these "accessories" are the opposite.
It adds weight, bulk, some decrease functionality, and you are paying money to do this...
I changed the grip panels on my 1911 to ones with a design, however they were thicker and filled my hand better... and were the same price as plain grips.
If you are going to turn you weapon into a clown car... dont get upset when it gets laughed at. :D

Sir, if you like the way it looks, that's your opinion.

Do you see where this is headed?

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.
