This afternoon I am attending a family reunion for descendants of my paternal grandparents and my great great grandfather who fought at the Battle of Gettysburg, 10 miles away. I'm pleased that about 1/3 of those who said they are coming are from outside this area. The extended family has kind of scattered to the 4 winds, so I'm getting to see some of my cousins who I haven't seen in years. It took a lot of work to pull together but I'm glad we're able to do it.

Sounds like fun. I have fond memories as a child attending family reunions. These were country folks -- everyone brought a dish -- fried chicken, fresh country vegetables, sweet tea, coconut cake, pecan pie -- I'd eat till I was ready to pop. Had a great uncle who would make a wash tub of homemade lemonade -- I think I drank half of it myself. I hope yours is as memorable!

I remember when a cousin or aunt would come to town. There was no official "Reunion", just everyone that was free would be at Grandma's farm on Saturday! Until 1966, Dad was a produce guy for a supermarket chain. I remember we always took two long green (no stripes) watermelon to the milkhouse and put them in the water chiller. There is absolutely nothing better than a ripe, sweet watermelon at 34 degrees, with an occasional dash of salt!

We had a nice turnout and the weather was fabulous with the reduced temperatures and a good breeze blowing through the pavilion. A cousin from GA who I hadn't seen in years brought 2 of her sons along who I don't think I ever met before. I brought along a big picture of my dad with his brothers and me and my family album. I'm now one of the family elders so I tried to acquaint the younger children about who the deceased family members were. I think the younger children who came to the reunion never realized before what a big family they really had. I think my cousin realized what her sons had been missing and said that she was going to really try to come back next year.
