Fantastic Forty-Four a Special Engraved Edition

To me, the engraving on the 44 does not look like either Jarvis or LeBlanc. The May 4, 1954 ship date was too early for RJ Smith (based on Roy's letter that Russ started engraving at the factory in May 1955 - a year after the 44 shipped). So, without records to help us pinpoint the exact engraver and no engraver marks on the gun itself, I'm going with the assumption that Alvin Herbert engraved this one.:)

Beautiful gun, Richard!👍 Great photography as usual. I agree with your assessment above. It's a wonderful example.

Karl:

Thanks for your thoughts and a big thank you to you and Bob for letting me run with this one... :)

Another gem, Richard. Congratulations on adding an additional caliber to your amazing collection! Your photography is always as spectacular as the subjects themselves. I like the black background. In particular it seems to make the details in the close-up shots really appear three-dimensional in my eyes. I appreciate the new perspective. Thanks again for sharing.

Dagnabbit, there goes another keyboard...

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Bob found the perfect emoji for how I feel every time I see one of Richard's "scratched up" revolvers.

Your photography has always impressed me, but that black background takes it to another level. Well done both in the acquisition and the presentation!

... Looks a lot like your pre-27 that also shipped to Rex Firearms about the same time...

SWCA #1457

Side by side comparison of the April 24, 1954 357 and the May 4, 1954 44 Special (also added a May 21, 1953 357, wearing some KB Ropers, that also shipped to Rex):

It sure would have been fun to swing by Rex Firearms in the mid 1950s and spend a little time at the counter...

Great Addition Richard! The engraving on the top of the frame along the rear sight is fascinating! Do any of your early 50's Model 27 have similar embellishment?

Bob:

All the 357 Magnums (pre-27s) have the checkered top strap, so no engraving there. That is one of the reasons this is fun for me, as it is different from the 357s.... :)
