Favorite Frame Size? Why?

Groo here
I like the N-frame, I shoot it the best.
J-frames hide well.
Never warmed up to the k-frame,
And would not hit a hog in the but for an L-frame---
That is what my Python is for !!!!!!!!

Never really thought about it, but I apparently prefer the big ones. I have more N-frames than all others combined. I just like shooting the big heavy calibers.

I like them all I own several examples of each K L N but my m69 L frame is kind of pulling into the lead , WAY lighter to carry than my 629 !
a k frame grip with big bore power ! Yes I give up one round , but if I can't get it done with 5 I'd probably be lunch anyway
If I could get a 44 in a k frame I'd be all over it
The new 66 is next on the list .. Cant have too many 357s :-)

RB K frames, followed by RB J frames.

Off the top of my head, I'm currently around 4 J frames, and 9 K frames. All round butts, and all .38 spl.

I've got nothing against Ls, I just dont have one right now (though a 686+ MG is on my watch list).

Ns have their place, but the trigger reach is a bit much for me to run double action comfortably, so none have ever really stuck with me.

Do I shoot my N frames the best because I shoot them the most or do I shoot them the most because I shoot them the best ??? :D

The heavy n frame revolvers because I can shoot Magnum loads with one hand. The 6" / 6 1/2" barrels are my nitch. Big guy=big arms/hands=big guns.

If I could only pick one, K frame. Just a slick pistol with such balance.

The L frame is a close second because it can handle any magnum load without fear of forcing cone issues.

The N frame is pretty large for my hands.

The J frame is no fun with .357 mag.

Just pretend this is witty.

If you go by what I own the most of, then it's J-frame. I would have to say that my favorite, (& it seems everyone else), would be a K-frame. They seem to fit my hand better than the others & the weight/balance is just right. I like N-frames mostly for the size holes that are bored into the cylinder .

K frame but J as second best for EDC in retirement.

I guess K frames are my favorite. Because this is my favorite gun and it is a K frame.

But I own more N frames than anything else. I think that has more to do with collector value, though.

Since I am a 44 guy and formerly only shooting N frames (and Ruger, Charter, T/C and rifles),
I have discovered the L frame and am a convert.
Even though you only get 5 shots, I think they are more accurate (at least the ones I have).
Any smaller frame and it's not going to fit my hand well.
I am 6'3" tall with hands proportional.

Musings of an Old Lady - now get off my lawn!

Now that I own several examples of the more common S&W frame sizes...J, K/L, N...and have gotten to spend a fair amount of time with all of them, I have finally come to a conclusion of which frame size suits me the best.

I have 7 J Frames, all are either snubby Airweights and Airlites (442, 638, 317, M&P340, 432PD, 337PD, 342PD). I love my J Frames. To me they are the ideal small carry gun. Not much fun to shoot a lot, but plenty accurate once you learn how to shoot them. These J Frames are a niche gun to me...small and light carry guns. My M&P340 is my favorite J Frame, followed closely by my 432PD.

I have 2 N Frames 627PC 2.6" and a 625JM. The N Frames are some big guns! Really too large to carry comfortably. These are range/target guns. Though I do carry my 627PC 2.6" IWB from time to time. While I like my N Frames, I don't love them. They are just a little big for me. And I am 6'1" and 190. So not a small guy either. I don't see myself buying any more N Frames in the near future. My 625JM is my favorite N Frame. It is super accurate and fun to shoot.

I have 5 K/L Frames (586 L Comp 3", 686PC 2.5", 65 Lady Smith, 386 Night Guard, 386PD 2.5". My K&L Frames are the best of both worlds. They are excellent carry pieces. Just the right size, not too small, not too big. They are also super accurate and can be comfortably shot all day at the range. I carry my K/L Frames more than any other revolver, and I shoot them the most. So this is my favorite S&W frame size. My 586 L-Comp is my Favorite K/L Frame, but I carry my 686PC 2.5" the most.

Thoughts?

Dear HM:

My fav carry is a nice Kobra Carry and I love, love the 45ACP cartridge. My three revolvers (a K-22lr, L-38/357mag, and N-Classic 44mag) are all really special to me and are my favorite day at the range guns. I put retro combats from Ahrends on all of them, and they are the cat's meow to shoot IMHO. If had to choose, I'd probably go with the N frame w/Retro-Combats. I know I am packing heat when I got my 629 bolted to me, and surprisingly it fits my hand well with Ahrends grips.

Those are my thoughts on the matter . . . would love to get a 625 and 629 Stealth Hunter. Maybe this is the year!!! :D

I'm an N-frame lover, though my Ks currently outnumber them at least 2-1. Cost is the main reason I don't own more, plus I just don't shoot the big bores like u used to, except my 24-3.

Never tried an L-frame. I'll have too see if there's a range that rents them.

If they'd chamber an L-frame in a 6-shot .40/10mm, which I think is possible, I'd be all over it.

I like the K's the most, I do have J, L, and N frames.
All my revolvers are 20 + years old.
