Favorite Frame Size? Why?

My best shooting gun is my Model 67 (newest dash # bought new in 2013) with 4" barrel. It has the smoothest trigger out of all my other revolvers. That coupled with the overall size makes it hard to beat. My 686+ 2.5" is a not too distant 2nd favorite and Model 69 is 3rd. So for me, K then L.

I have J, K & N frames, never have shot an L.

I like them all, but if I had to pick just ONE it would probably be a 3" K-frame in 357.

Small enough to conceal, big enough to shoot magnums comfortably, and a barrel just long enough for real target shooting.

Thankfully I don't have to limit myself to just one.

I have J, K, L and N frames. All offer something different.
Of them, I may prefer the N's, but mainly because they're the big bore pistols.

J frames are amazing in that they pocket and present so well.
K/L's are a good working size, and you can get a lot of pistol in a medium sized package.

I need to get an X frame (460?), and then I'll be able to have a better understanding.

K and L. We have models of all but I especially love my wife's 65LS and the ol' 686-3 6" is my absolute favorite. We haven't done the conceal carry yet but when we do I'd die for a 27 3 1/2" nickle (but probably would not carry).

Sure wish they'd come out with a 65 or 27 3 1/2" again for carry. If I can ever get a 627 PC 8 shot I'd carry that for now...

S&W .357's are soooooooooooooooo sweet!

Wow, this subject brought out the voters. :)

I like N Frames, my 1st 2 S&W's were 29-2's.

I have thinned considerably. I have a Pre-27 in 357, a 4" 629 and the last purchase was a new 686 in 4".

I have owned quite a few K frames, model 19's but just never warmed up to them.

Until recently I had 3 22 Masterpieces. Those I loved. Perfet 22 size.

When I was a Deputy I carried a 4" Colt Python and sold 3 of those last year.

Years ago I helped my dad pick out a 586 in 6", it was very nice and one my Brother inherited. After I sold my Pythons I made it a point to find a 686 to replace them. Even though it has the K frame size grip I like the size of the pistol, reminds me of my Pythons if you will.

My priorities are;
1. N frame.
2. L Frame
3. Colt 1911.

I've owned a 36, Colt Detective and Cobra. Neither grabs me for a carry gun. For a long time my carry was a Colt Combat commander.

N frame for me is where it is at. Nothing better than a 4"or 6" 29 or 629 IMO . I do have them in 5 classic and 6.5 inch classic configurations as well as a 4" mountain gun.

I have J's and L's too but I am just drawn to the N's, I can't explain why.

As a wise man once said: "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand."

I love me some J frame as they're great for CCW and fit my hands fine with a Tyler-T's or CT grips. The K frame is great for the range and balances well for me as well. So.... J, K, L then N in that order for me personally.

X. Because they haven't made a "Y" frame yet (but when they do, it will probably come with a carriage like a civil war cannon...) and Colt stopped making the Walker long ago and these are as near to a "horse gun" as is made today...

Since I am a 44 guy and formerly only shooting N frames (and Ruger, Charter, T/C and rifles),
I have discovered the L frame and am a convert.
Even though you only get 5 shots, I think they are more accurate (at least the ones I have).
Any smaller frame and it's not going to fit my hand well.
I am 6'3" tall with hands proportional.

Since I am a 45ACP and 45Super guy, I have yet to discover an L frame w/ 5 shots.

That was my ideal, but I went w/ a 625JM and I am most pleased.

It's nearly the same weight as a 686 and packs a 10mm punch for hazards in the woods.

Then the weight feels good and I never flinch ... my favorite.

Still wanted 5 inch barrel but 4 will do.

My model 60 J frame in 357 still doesn't have the right grip for the recoil, but I shoot it often anyways to maintain my joy over it.

K frame, b/c it was my old man's agency sidearm for a long time. He was too cheap to buy rubber grips, so Magnas are the only thing that feels right to me after shooting his training ammo for a decade.

Coincidentally, the only semi I shoot well is a P229 in 40 for the exact same reason.
