I've had an interest in 1911's since my dad spoke of his difficulty in handling and qualifying with a rattle trap 1911 in the service. Somehow I knew I'd get along with one just fine.

On deployment at Okinawa on the base range at 19 years of age was my first opportunity to finally fire one. It was a drama free experience and quite enjoyable. The tang dug into my hand just a little, but I didn't notice until the session was over.

Needing my own, not having the money for a high dollar custom, and not wanting to settle for a mass produced semi custom, on my 21st birthday a Colt followed me home (along with a couple others).

Through the years it has been fired, carried, used, abused, and gone through some changes, but I like it more than ever. It is not only my favorite handgun but my favorite firearm of them all.

Currently with an aftermarket frame and various other parts it has little monetary value, but as an accurate, reliable, and smooth shooting pistol it's all I can ask for. I'm hoping someday my son will be appreciating it, too.

But maybe this one.

Flame suit on.

HK
Glock.

Either one. Doesn't matter. If I had to pick I'd say Glock but only because it's on me now.

Simple, reliable, maintenance free, plug and play. That's all I need

Well I am a huge fan of the 1911. :D
But I'd have to say that my absolute favorite handgun is the S&W Model 18. Mine gets more range time than any other gun I own. Its just plain fun to shoot! :D I also give it full credit for teaching me to properly shoot a DA revolver. ;)

Here is a 1972 Model 66 that belonged to Officer Larry Childress of the Memphis Police Department. Officer Childress gave his life answering a breaking and entering call in 1982. Got the letter from the previous owner who's husband was with the Memphis Police verifying the story. I feel this is owed a certain amount of respect so I will show this. I do have a very nice Luger my dad left me but since this is a S&W site this will be my pick..

My old Smith & Wesson 1926 Third Model Transition .44 Spl. is my favorite handgun. It is just a shooter but I wouldn't part with it for a new in the box .44 transition model.

do have to say, Grayfox's Model 18 pick is pretty good and runs a close second for me. I sure in enjoy my pre-18 and it is on the "never part with " list.

Second is a toss up between a Sig 220 made the same year my son was born and a Sig 228 I have history with.

I saw a thread eariler where the gentleman was about to break out with the howling fantods over the groves machined into the top-strap on his new S&W not lining up in some way I failed to see. A photo of this well-loved beauty should come with a warning. I am afraid it could cause one so inclined to break into barking fits or a seizure.
