FAVORITE IWBs FOR J FRAMES

When I want to carry my Model 642-1 (no lock) with Uncle Mike's
Spegel designed boot grips, IWB (Inside the Waist Band) I have
some good choices. Left to Right:

Matt Delfatti made this ASP-DD with offset clip and reinforced
mouth trim made with shark.

Mark Garrity calls this his "inconspicuous" it also has the offset
clip and a tension adjustment screw.

Lou Alessi made this Hard Shell Talon for me back in 2006.
It has a pattened nylon clip which keeps the holster in place.
Lou passed away in 2009.

Lefty Lewis does business as Bell-Charter-Oak. He was
influenced by his friend Chic Gaylord. This is his Chicago
Rocker IWB.

Erik Srigley does business as Sideguard Holsters. This one
is called the Quick Clip. I like the two-tone.

those are some VERY nice leather holsters for your J. I do not have any leather ones just kydex. You have some money tied up in those i would suspect. Very nice sir...

Only one I have at the moment that serves many J Frames. Gun show made while I waited to my specs.. I am happy with it too....

When it comes to IWB holster for J-Frames I do not follow the current trend of using thick leather or plastic holsters. My favorite IWB's are the old, cheap and COMFORTABLE soft Suede style that last forever. Here are three and the one on the right has never even been used. The Gray one is older than I care to admit, and the Brown one is at least 35 years old.

It is true that once Roscoe is puled, one hand re-holstering is all but impossible, but I am NOT concerned with that at all. If I pull it then people will either see it or hear it anyway. If you need to get it out of sight quickly, just stick it in a pocket or anywhere in your waist band until you have your second hand free.

I like the simplicity, COMFORT and did I mention COMFORT of the old technology. Most will not agree, but this is what has worked for me for many years.

I like this Galco Summer Comfort. The leather snaps let you adjust the cant a little.

When carrying various handguns IWB, I always bought inexpensive Safariland suede holsters. These always conformed to the shape of the handgun, were very comfortable, and they made magazine and cuff holders to match. Safariland may not make them now, but other holster makers do. The same type chief38 shows photos of.

I only have one kydex IWB but its a good one. FIST #1K.
Very thin and very light and a clip that will not let go, even
of just waistband fabric. I use it for my LCR.

I read this to my Great Uncle Lefty tonight. He agrees with much of what you said. He said to tell you that despite the fact he could have made any concealment holster in the 40 years he was a policeman, for over 35 of those years he used Elk Suede inside waistband holsters at the appendix for his 2 back up guns. He say's he was criticized for this also, by Gaylord and some others, but that didn't matter much to him. He say's one was made by Safariland (right hand), the other (left hand) by another unmarked maker in the Bronx, that he bought in a police equipment store of some sort.

By coincidence, he will be reintroducing split suede holsters that clip on for many revolvers and autos, like he made in the 70's and 80's. We talk often, I monitor the different forums for him because he lost significant eyesight and hearing from his stroke. For the record, I don't know anything about making holsters, that is my Uncle Lefty's thing. He say's the split cowhide holsters will be an economical alternative, comfortable and as always, concealable. Thanks for visiting with me.

I hope you told Lefty that his Chicago Rocker is one of my
favorite IWB holsters.

I like this Galco Summer Comfort. The leather snaps let you adjust the cant a little.

Those snaps are handy when you need to take the holster
off or put it on without undoing your belt and pants.
Here is an old Lewis holster, with similar snaps, worn outside
waistband (OWB).

I would agree on the quality of Milt sparks holsters. But I think the vm2 rides kinda high. I asked them to make me a nonreinforced iwb that rode lower. They declined. I don't blame them for not wanting to go off their designs. They keep busy enough as it is.
I did have Grizzle leather make me what I wanted and am very happy!!

They used to have one called WATCH SIX. It was just like
VMII except no reinforced mouth. I got one for a CZ75B
that I had. Gave gun & holster to my grandson.

The only IWB I use for my J Frames is the Alessi Ghost holster. I hate IWB carry in general but the J frame or Colt DS in the Alessi Ghost is the only one I will carry. Plus the clip system is designed to be used without a belt if wanted and it works perfectly. I carry it in appendix position either strong or off side.
