Tough choices, best I can do is: The Quiet Man or The Searchers. But, I like em' all, even Genghis Khan.

Big Jake or True Grit or... Man, I can't say which is best. By the way, I was sorely disappointed to visit Fort Smith, AR only to find out it looked nothing like the set of True Grit. It's still worth a stop if you're in that area.

Man...so many to choose from but some of my favorites, Red River, The Searchers, The Sons of Katie Elder and The Cowboys. I could go on.

From Stagecoach to The Shootist, I haven't seen a bad one yet. I really like some of the lighter ones too, like McLintock. I love it when he shoots his daughter's boyfriend with the blank pistol.

Hi:
I too like all "John Wayne Movies".
My favorite quoto is from "Hondo": When told that Their Protector "Victorio" (Apache Chief) had keep killed, John said "Every body dies, it was just His turn".
During the big apache attack at the end of the movie, John to Ward Bond,"Are you ready?"Ward-"I was born ready!"

Too darn many parameters to really say which one is the "best."
Acting? Score? Scenery? Love scene? Realism? Plot development?

I've got to go with True Grit scenery and good lines.

and as for musical score and the best scene of The Duke shooting,
The Son's of Katie Elder, period.

And of course, The Quiet Man because this was the role that showed The Duke's soft, and tough side...and made that red-head my heartthrob.:o

""I love it when he shoots his daughter's boyfriend with the blank pistol. "" from McClintock.

"Well, you're my daughter, and I love ya." BOOM! What a great scene.

My favorite qoute is in a cavalry movie (She wore a yellow ribbon, I'm not sure). John Wayne called Ben Johnson and said: "Sargeant Tyrie, I'm volunteerin' you agin!"

Absolutely "The Searchers" with "True Grit" as my #2.

The last scene with Ethan framed in the doorway......cinematography at it's best.

FN in MT

True Grit but The Shootist is a close 2nd for sentimental reasons.

Even though JW played a jerk in Red River I think it was his finest acting job.
My favorite? She Wore A Yellow Ribbon.

In order by catagory:

WESTERNS:
Searchers
Angel and the Badman
The Shootist
Big Jake

WAR:
They were Expendable
Sands of Iwo Jima
Flying Leathernecks
In Harm's Way (story and acting wise - poor battle scenes)

OTHER:
The Quiet Man
Donovan's Reef
The High and the Mighty

I think it would be alot easier to count the BAD ONES, plus you can keep your hands in your pocket and the shoes on your feet. Answer: 0 :D

Just for plain old fun I think Donovans Reef and Hatari both beat McClintock. Lee Marvin was great in Donovans Reef.
